I already did take a look at this website a few days ago and it is very interesting to see Druckerchannel.de stilll endorses the Durchstich refill method for these cartridges. The problem is the difference in ink volumes between normal and XL cartridges. I sold all my Canon printers and I use Epson printers only now, because of the ease of using alternative refillable cartridges, using pigment ink for all colours and one way or another to reconvert waste ink into an external bottle or similar.

If I would buy a Canon printer again, I would go for the Canon Pro 9500 or Canon Pro-10 or Pro-100. The latest PGI-550/CLI-551 are a no-go for me.

Epson, Canon, HP... A "few"
I'm getting the Prodinks for the more insistent of my customers so there are options available. Certainly they dealt with some early issues we had with a test batch. The real problem at the moment is the lack of refillable quality cartridges (ie: XL rather than starter OEM empties).

OCP have also come out with something compatible but that's a complete unknown at the moment... No news from Image Specialists as yet but we'll see there too.

From what I've read (in many reviews, including the article that you have posted) the Prodinks products are good, maybe less the pigment black. I suppose this is the reason for which Octoinkjet offers a combined pack - the dyes from Prodinks and the pigment from KMP - and I see this as a very good choice.
But I've also read a lot of good opinions about Inktec inks and - although I couldn't find a direct comparison with Prodinks - they seem to be of a better quality (and at a lower price) than other renowned manufacturers, including some german firms.
Some tests are here: http://www.druckerchannel.de/artikel.php?ID=951&t=fototintentest_canon_patronen and here: http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/inktec-vs-ocp-vs-epson-vs-nanodigital-pigment-inks.8638/
The only problem is that Inktec resellers are very few or have outdated websites (for example, on both http://www.inktec-uk.co.uk/ and http://www.inktecshop.co.uk/ I could not find newer models of printers, as my Pixma IX6850) and I wonder why the more visible and trustful online shops - as Octoinkjet - don't include this manufacturer in their offer.
Maybe @websnail could give us more information...

@floK, I really don’t know what this post is about at all, because you’ve gotten lost alone the way somewhere.

Your model printer iX6850 takes the newer 550/551 cartridges and a vast number of websites do cover these cartridge types but not necessarily each printer model that uses them.

Now the Druckerchannel article you refer to is over ten years old and is not very representative for todays newer printers, and both the Inktec sites you listed don’t sell proper pigment ink either, as I said your getting mixed up somewhere with your collated information.

Prodinks are a new company with a rebranded name, formally known as Sudhaus Inks, which were a good brand in their day but just like some other ink manufactures that couldn’t make it through the world recession, they too went bust.

Now Octoinkjet do cover your printer model in their listings and yes they do include KMP ink as a better alternative to other brands, and just in case you can’t find the page listed on their site here it is: http://www.octoink.co.uk/categories/*-Canon-Printer-Products/iX-Series/Pixma-IX6850/
This should make you a lot happier.. :)

@The Hat, is my english so poor that makes me look like a dumb?!
Of course that I know what cartridges uses my printer and what to look for on websites!!!
As about who Prodlinks/Sudhaus are and what Octoinkjet sells, I'm pretty well documented - you should have understood that from what I wrote! I know that their products are good and I said this - black on white - in my post.
But does this mean that we can't discuss about other manufacturers?!
I really would like to know more about Inktec, about which I've read to be a very good and cheaper alternative.
Indeed, you're right, I haven't noticed that the article from Druckerchannel was written in 2005!
But the other one - the test made by @costadinos and posted here: http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/inktec-vs-ocp-vs-epson-vs-nanodigital-pigment-inks.8638/ is much more recent.(yes, I know that it is about pigment inks, but I think that who can make good pigments can also make good dyes).
In fact, I hoped that someone here (maybe even @websnail from Oktoinkjet) have recently tested both Inktec and Prodinks and could tell us the differences.
A verdict as: Prodinks is the best because we only use (or sell) Prodinks is not at all useful :)

Hi @floK, no your English is just fine, I understand it very well, but the point I was trying to make was that websites paste in cartridge types because its quicker that listing all of the known printers and are less likely to make an error.

These two named sites:- inktec-uk.co.uk and inktecshop.co.uk sell compatible inkjet cartridges and inks cheaply because they may well only stock the same colour inks regardless of which printer you have.

So if you want a yellow for a BCl-6, CLl-8, CLl-525 or CLl-551 cartridge, it’s the same colour no different that’s how they sell so cheaply, they only carry a single stock range of colours and guess what, they don’t stock pigment inks, why ?

Pigment ink on the other hand cannot be used in every printer, so a seller would have to stock many different inks for all the different printers, but these two don’t, but all good ink stockists do and that’s why they are dearer and a much safer place to purchase from.

There is nothing wrong with Inktec or OCP inks, far from it, just as long as you’re getting the correct ink for your specific printer and in a lot of cases you don’t exactly know what you’re getting half the time..:hu

... Octoinkjet offers a combined pack - the dyes from Prodinks and the pigment from KMP - and I see this as a very good choice.
But I've also read a lot of good opinions about Inktec inks and ...
My personal experience with canon CLI-8 printers:
- the dyes from any of the better known brands, like IS..prodinks..tintenalarm..peach..kmp..inktec (some as bulk, some only in carts)... it doesn't matter - because you have to profile all of them to get good color, even canon OEM is on the red/warm side. "Color matching" is a promise which no 3rd party ink I used had kept...
- but the text black from KMP, because it's simply the best.

Beside the color output one thing might be important: the chemikal properties which possibly make a good or bad flow, keeping the nozzles from clogging or over heating. But who could know or analyze this - except canon's own laboratories?

And they all fade, more or less (more)..

Yes, I understand very well what you say about the unknown/unverified sellers, I also wouldn't buy from that sites (I only gave them as negative examples).
But I see that some (specific) inks from Inktec are sold by Octoinkjet, too - and, due to the very good reputation of this seller, for me this is a confirmation that Inktec is a serious manufacturer.
So, I'm just curious why Octoinkjet doesn't sell the entire range of products from Inktec?
Did they make some (extended) tests and concluded that, for dyes, Prodinks are better than Inktec (in the same way they decided that, for pigments, KMP are better than Prodinks)?
Or it was only a commercial decision (for example, because Prodinks is a more secure supplier, or offers better conditions to resellers)?
Do not get me wrong, I can agree with both reasons, but I would like to know some more details.
Just because I want to be sure that I "get the correct ink for my specific printer" :)
Of course, this will not stop me to try, as soon as possible, this bundle from Octoinkjet, which seems to be the best option for a beginner-refiller :D

There is a reason for some confusion with which inks are now been sold for the newer printers, the Canon 550/551 cartridge uses a slightly different formula of ink and colours, so none of the older inks will work effetely in these newer model printers without some problems occurring.

The good Ink suppliers have tested all of the new 3rd party inks available for the 550/551 range to see which ones preform the best and will work properly and safely in these machines.

The KMP black pigment ink is specially formulated to work in desktop printers along side the dye inks, however this ink is not for use in the Pro pigment printer models, not all inks are the same, for instance, don’t ever try Epson inks in a Canon printer..
