Bestbuy.ca is selling 4-in-1 PIXMA MX700 for C$99.99. It uses the same cartridges as iP4500. It does not use CLI-8BK. What is the CLI-8BK for since the iP4500 has the pigment black PGI-5BK?

It has a LAN connection. This will be used mainly as a fax, scan and copy machine. The main printing will be done at i550 and iP4500. I do not print photo.

I already have the chip resetter for my iP4500. It is logically for me to buy MX700 to replace my Brother MFC-5440CN which has "unable to print" error. I am using my Brother machine as fax and scan over network. I miss the quick document copy function.

I like to hear your opinion on the MX-700. Thanks

embguy,

I just posted a topic about which AIO to buy too. The reason for the CLI-8Bk is actuallly to enhance contrast for photo printing, because on photo paper pigment ink is not used due to bronzing and flaking of the paper. So printers which do not have a CLI-8Bk black on photo paper is simulated by mixing C/M/Y dye inks. This will never give deep black like with real dedicated photo black. Something else: CMY printing will use up to 60 % more ink than a CMYK printing system (with extra CLI-8Bk) to produce the same results and the black will hardly rival the real black from a CLI-8Bk.

I would advise you to use the MX700 for printing text and the IP4500 for photo printing, because of the CLI-8Bk cartridge enhancing photo printing.

I got an MX700 a year (or was it two?) back and did a review on it...

... In truth I wasn't all that impressed... If you can get it, I'd plump for an MX850 instead but that may be overkill... Hopefully the review provides some useful pointers anyway

websnail,
Thank you for your review.

I am considering MX-850 too. But the cost is twice as much as MX-700. I like the MX-850 duplex ADF and duplex printing. The duplex ADF will come in handy to scan double-sided document. If it has the same print mechanism as the iP4500, the duplex printing will be slow. MX-850 uses the same ink cartridges as my iP4500.

How is the MX-700 scanning feature over network?

For what it's worth, the features and performance of the MX850 is more than double the MX-700 and I suspect if you dig around you can probably find a better price if you're patient.

On that score I must admit I never bothered to look... By the time I'd figured out that the unit wasn't much cop on printing I'd decided to drop it and leave it there... Someone else may well be able to help though... Best of luck.

I came to the same conclusion. With the current economic condition, wait for MX850 sales...

Yes..Best Buy Canada has the mx850 for $129.00 This an excellent printer for the price..;)grab one while you can. Printers that use the cli-8s and pgi-5 won't be around much longer. It's a great buy, especially with the low Canadian dollar!! There are probably even better deals in the USA.

Embguy,

I did purchase the MX850 and I am very glad I choose this AIO, because the results are much better than I expected. Even scanning over network is reasonable fast and gives very good results rivalling the CCD-scanner based MP780. And printing is much faster.
