Bertil,... The iP4200 has a color resolution of 9600x2400 dpi which is twice that of the iP4000. If your concern is about fading of prints, then you are first going to have to get excellent photo paper and ink to match. You need to search for Archival quality in both. You should have a second set of ink Carts for your high quality prints and also use the best paper. Search on the Web and read about Canon's Chromalife system. I'm not positive but I think they have the 100 years fade resistance.

The iP4000 is a great printer but it has a MAX resolution of 4800x1200 dpi and you can only get that if you use the absolute best photo paper and the max quality settings. Otherwise it will be set to 2400x600 dpi.
