Hi,

I own several Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printers

The latest one I purchased on Ebay is brand new, never used. The only problem is the Canon OEM carts which are full are missing their OEM chips, all of them.
No big deal since i got the printer at a sick low price

My question is specifically this . If I buy 3rd party set of single use chips and attach them to the OEM cartridges will this brand new printer initialize or fail to do so?
I know these chips work on this model once it's been initialized with OEM CHIPS and ink levels get very low or are marked empty.

So the question is whether 3rd party single use chips will initialize this beast. If so would ARC chips do the job too?

If no to everything is my only option buying a 12 pack of Canon Lucia ink for $650?

I have two full sets of empties that have the OEM chips on them but I doubt filling them with OEM inks would work since I probably would not have the option one by one to set disable ink monitoring

Any help appreciated

jeff

When I initialized my new Canon Maxify printer I didn’t want to use the original OEM carts on it, so I put in a set of new third party carts with ARC chip on board and the printer was none the wiser, So I imagine you can do the same with the Pro 1000..

I wouldn't bet on that, Maxifys are totally different printers from Canon Pro series. They have only the brand name in common. Besides, AFAIK there're no autoreset chips for the ,Pro-1000, only single use chips.

You might have a check here on aliexpress.com:

Hefty costs, but if it is auto reset chip you may have covered the burden even after the consumption of 1 set of cartridges with a good aftermarket ink. Note: I suggest to ask the seller if the chips will work on US-based printers for the auto reset chip function, because of the weak consumer protection laws in the US they can put special booby traps in the US printer firmware to disable the chips after 1 usage.

I have bought so-called one time chips for my Epson SC-P900 printer (the Epson equivalent of the Canon Pro-1000) and it turns out those chips can be easily reset by the corresponding chip resetter that supposedly can only reset OEM chips, but it works too on the aftermarket chips too, which was a great surprise to me. BUT in case of the Pro-1000 auto reset chips it might work (auto reset function) or in the worse case only one time and after that you have to disable the ink levels, but that should be bearable if that works and is only something you have to take care off regularly (check carts before a large print job and refill accordingly)
