Any news on using the bluesetter on non-canon carts? From what I have read the red one seemed to work most of the time.

Also, any advice on a reliable vendor for either one would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Hi all, my 1st mex :)
From this vendor http://www.inkfilling.com/printer-ink-canon-resetter-cli8-pgi5.html I've ordered the redsetter (german) but received a canon blue chip resetter (chinese) as per this link http://www.inkjetreset.com/OM-Home-Resetter.html
It works pretty good only on original Canon carts of my Pixma IP3300, but nothing to do on compatible chipped carts as per this link http://www.inchiostri.it/store/prodotti.asp?prn=1635
I've posted said link so you can see better the shape of chip resetter and compatible carts. Those carts btw are to be absolutely avoided as not enough good for further reuse for various reasons.
That's why today ordered for tomorrow these empty refillable carts http://www.producers.it/dettaglio873.html
http://www.producers.it/dettaglio806.html just to reuse the 'dead' useless chips :(
In few words on the market there are actually at least 3 different models od chip resetters for Canon carts, and all seems to work fine only/at least on Canon OEM carts.
The german RedSetter seems to be built better than the others and it is said to work also on some compatible chips. However my chinese blue model's instructions say ... >but may not work on "compatible chips" manufactured by 3rd parties.<
My actual opinion is that on the market there are at least 3 different compatible chips for Pixma IP3300: somewhere I've read that a user said that his redsetter was working fine with every chip, but I don't trust him.
If I remember well, I've seen online series of compatible chips only, without the need of buying carts with them; this should be a good way to find out those good to be resetted as the originals Canon.

This is exactly the kind of experience I wanted to hear about. I've never been big on shopping online unless its with a known and reputable vendor. The one you ordered from pops up on Google ads all the time and seems to have multiple company names. Some people here seem to think highly of Mapsy at www.inkjetreset.com but she does not sell the redsetter only the blue and she as been out of stock lately anyway.

I purchased red-setter from Germany Magic Chip http://www.resetter.de

Got original red-setter, no problems so far. Battery still works fine. I made a guide on how to replace it but really don't need it so far.

Hi and good day, im kinda new here.. and i dont know here to put my post so i rather post it here...

I got a new canon printer, its Pixma IP3680 (3600 series) that uses the new Chip Tanks CLi-821Blk,Y,M,C and the CLI-820 PBlk tanks..

so far.. i havent found any resetters for these type of cart.. does anyone have tried using CLi-8 resetters to reset CLI-821 carts?,

what i have done so far is I place a black tape on the optical Ink sensor, that would not let the printer recognize those empty reservoir tanks..

well kinda need your opinion about this... tnx

There's some reports of someone selling compatibles for those cartridges but no resetters as yet..

Unfortunately that's all been tried in the past and it doesn't work. The optical sensor is really only a backup to the chip logic which will detect when the cartridge should definitely be empty and then trigger an empty warning regardless. In short, you're unlikely to have much luck.

Ultimately the only option really is to go with refilling and accept the ink monitor disabled message when it finally crops up. At least that allows you to continue to print even if it means you're checking ink levels manually, more than you'd like.

No... Canon have done what Epson refuse and can't do because of some design differences.

Canon printers can detect when the printer is out of ink in the main spongeless chamber and then guesstimate the remainder of the ink in the sponge area. With the advent of the chip they went one further by tracking nozzle firings with the chip and then erroring when the printer realised that the cartridge should now be empty. It's supposedly a protection approach and in fairness it makes sense... It also helps them annoy refillers and CIS users.. Bonus Canon! :)

Anyway... little history/tech lesson aside. Canon have still allowed you to use a refilled or CIS built cartridge but they've thrown in the proviso of disabling ink monitoring and you accepting a warranty invalidation. I can't say I blame them entirely and compared to Epson Canon's approach is a lot more consumer friendly.

To cut to the chase though the options for all the newest Canon models (including your own) at present are simple.

1. No resetter
2. No refilling unless you accept the warranty waiver warning when it crops up

... and no... no way around it at present.

darn! and i thought before that all canons Doesnt use chips... thats why i bought it... after unpacking.. i saw this freaking thing on the carts..

so far.. i dont like epson printers although they are cheap and easy to CIS, but what i hate about it is the printer head.. i got one and i thrown it away cause the head keeps clogging even i use those expensive carts... and it waste alot of inks.

so i bought my 2nd printer w/c is HP PSC 1410 4 in one printer.. and im planning to CIS this thing.. but there is a problem... its 3 yr old unit and the rubber roller is busted.. sometimes it cant feed properly.. and having problems feeding photo papers... so this canon is my last hope for photo printing... and now.. another hilarious problem occurred.
