Can wide format inks be used in a CISS?

Just wondering, would it be possible to "harvest" ink from OEM wide format cartridges and use it in a CISS for a desktop printer (R2000 for instance)?

We can get recently expired 700ml cartridges for the x900, x800 etc printers for about $150-$200 on ebay. That's more or less the same as a set of 8x100ml of ink from the more expensive third party ink manufacturers, like inkjetfly.

Is there any reason the wide format inks (like Ultrachrome HDR) wouldn't work or cause problems in a R2000?
All the colors (PK, MK, C, R, O, Y, M) minus the gloss optimizer of course, are used by large format printers as well, and a custom profile should take care of any color mismatches.

All of them! LOL
I have been doing just that for quite a while for my 3800 R2400 and R2880 by buying 220 ml carts for the 4800 and 4880 ( VM and LVM )!

I was thinking exactly along the same lines as I have an R2000 plus two R1900s which is the same inkset.
I am currently using OCP ( German ) inks for the R2000 from rjettek but they were out of Orange and GO. So I was lonking at using HDR Orange inks. But I am not entirely sure whether that orange would match the R2000 / R1900 orange.
However even if it does not quite match I could create a cutom profile for the hybrid set.

I would think it should work just fine.

Mikling, what do you thnk?

Sorry jtoolman , I didn't notice your previous similar thread before posting this! Do let us know how replacing the orange turns out regarding color matching/gamut when you try it.

I've also been thinking doing that for the dye-based printers, Fuji makes a dry minilab that uses 5-color dye inks (CMYK and LC), and these too come in 700ml, at a price similar to the Epson's 700ml. The printhead they use seems to be made by Epson, possibly the inks are made by Epson as well. They seem to be similar to Claria regarding fade resistance.

What I will likely do is buy Image Specialists R2000 Orange and GO from inkjetcarts.us as the over all cost is toons lower.
Profiling produces great results with the OCP and IS hybrid ink set for the R1900 / R2000

But as I said, I've been doing the large format EPson cart thing for my 3800 R2400 and R2880 printers and it's great.

Are you sure inkjetcarts.us actually sell IS inks? Can't find any info on their site, apart from calling the inks "ChromiumPro HighGloss2" (if they are indeed IS inks they are far from "high gloss" if you ask me :))

You could try getting your OCP from here, you can also benefit from getting larger quantities for a lot less if you don't mind stocking up (they sell 1L bottles for less than twice the amount they sell the 250ml):

Yes Inkjetcarts sells IS inks which they rename.
Yes they lack in gloss compared to OEM
CONE K3 inks actually are glossier than OEM but are more expensive than other 3rd party.

Thanks for the link. I will check it out.

I've heard that from others as well and wanted to try them, but I'm using a R2000 and they don't seem to make inks for that model. I could try using individual inks from their Ultrachrome HDR equivalent like we discussed above.
Do you happen to know if that inkset is also superior in terms of glossiness?

They all are.
As good or more glossier than OEM. I do not personally use CONE pigment at the moment but I do know two guys who do, swear by them and I have seen print examples they provided me when I was evaluating IS and OCP K3 inks.

You would have to find and equivalent RED ink for it since the Epson HDR do not have RED in their set.
And that's where you might have a problem. Also the Magentas are of the VIVID type and the R2000 does not use Vivid Magenta. So you would have to substitute another magenta. Maybe the normal K3 magenta.
