The thing isn't much money and he can't really offer a demo which people could use to produce all the profiles they need. I still wouldn't buy it without confirmation it produces useful profiles.

He ought to provide a few generated profiles for common printers and papers that people can examine and compare with manufacturer provided or their own profiles.

As for scanner calibration I already said I don't think they will vary much. Also given a crap load of measurements which are the product of two unknowns (printer and scanner profiles) it is conceivable that both unknows could be solved for. Maybe that is what is new?

they added the Canon Lide 300 scanner as a cheap source for a scanner working together with Print Prism

I own an older version of profile prism. Mike Chaney used to ship out an IT8 target with the purchase. I also had an older custom target.

The issue with the software was getting a correct scan. Most of the time using a Canon LIDE it was fine but some paper/ink combinations didnt work as well.

With all the models out there, I'm pretty sure that even with the IT8 as a reference, I would do a profile and someone else would do one and they would come out a bit different. What the author did is simply pre-test some models to measure the response (which the IT8 was doing) and baked it into the software. This eliminates a lot of user error and gives more consistent results.

I cant say for sure but the color engine in the newer versions is not probably not much different from old versions. I'm pretty sure there is a thread on older PP versions here on printerknowledge with some examples.

I was happy with PP about 20 years ago and if you already have a supported scanner it's worth a try as long as you are aware that results might not be much better than manufacturer profiles...

Nowadays for the price, I would just get a used colormunki or that chinese spectro with ArgyllCMS
