Hello all,

Almost a year later since the last post in this thread.
And i also run into a strange problem with profile making with the i1 pro2 and Argyll.

It seems to relate with the separators?
I can make my own target and print it. (just a test one).

But when i try to read the printed sheet.
Initial starts ok. Calibrating...
The warning message about GretagMacbeth i1 Pro and Xrite i1 Pro2 (It's a efi es 2000) :)

But what ever i do. I get continue the message about a mismatch of read patches?
When i compare Your ti1 and ti2 files, Despite the diverent no of patches all seems to match?

I have downloaded your 875 targets Both the one with the seperators and the one without them.

Unfortunately, 1 cartridge is total empty now. So tomorrow i can print both an check if i can read the patches now?

One question can and will you the give the used commands and parameters so i can check is they are on the important ones equal or conform the patch divergences.

btw: i use Linux with Turboprint and Argyll version 3.3.0 And the i1 (efi | es-2000) works flawlessly with Argyll Pro 2.0

Found this in my history :)
targen -v -d2 -G -g16 -f420 i1-01
printtarg -v -i i1 -R1 -T300 -p A4 i1-01
sudo chartread -v -H i1-01
sudo chartread -v -H -T0.4 i1-01

Best Regards,

Newby Ron.
Hello Fixed my problem. i was to quick. I read at some other place that i have to wait 2-3 seconds after push the button. And also wait 2-3 seconds after the line read is finished. And probable even slower moving the reader. even slower than de colormunki.

So now waiting for my printer cartridge and tomorrow test print and the 875 target processing.

Exactly what message ?

Exactly what messages ?

Note that if you don't have a reasonably accurate profile to feed into targen -c, then
expected patch values are much more likely to not be close to the measured patches, and
you are much more likely to get warning messages.

But bottom line is what is the self fit error reported when making a profile ?
This is the best indicator of whether the measured patches are coherent.

Hello Graeme,

The first one is just the message that the default scanner is the gretag… and it found a i1pro2. Nothing to worry about.

The second one solved itself. I was to hasty and started the measurement to soon and ended to soon. On my Linux machine I don’t get the audible sign. Now I wait at least 2 to 3 seconds to start and end.

@pharmacist ,

In your profile documentation you mentioned that you recommend Qimage for printing. Did you also use Qimage for the extra human readable text? if no or yes how did you add the text? :)

And how do you prevent that the photo not get tagged with a color-space?

to all who know the answer.

In ArgyllCMS in printtarg you can choose the patch separation. But these separations can cause random read errors. version 3.4.0 can now detect them. And if you sure that the the strip-read is ok you can choose for continue. But then you do not know if all patches are read? Or is the complete row check done first? and then the DE check?

The problem is now the color separator is not to be trusted. And also the black can give sometimes high DE warnings. And no separation can false patch count trigger when a white patch is on the first or last place of the row is placed.

I have a look at the X-Rite patch chart. And they have a vertical black line at the start and end of the patches. Perhaps it is a good idea to add this option into the printtarg program? if this is not possible? then i need the add the two black lines in the generated tif in a photo editor. (with the extra readable text). :)

I am not sure what you mean by extra human readable text: please explain it to me :) . Alternative older versions of Photoshop like version 5 and older can also be used, because these older versions can print without color management. Not sure why the latest versions disabled no color management, which is very annoying.

I’ll try to explain :)

You’re by ArgyllCMS created 875-target.tif is normally without any text. Yours have text on it where we can write extra meta data about the target. It looks like you have a template where you paste the target in.

The removal of the 'print without colormanagment' by Adobe was the first of many devilish actions. to make self profiling very hard. (i think it was a conspiracy between adobe and the big printer guys to rule out the aftermarket paper boys.) Since then it was impossible for me to make good profiles for my Canon iPF-5100 printer with datacolor's spyderprint!

OK I understand: actually I have used my limited PS skills to squeeze and modify the orginal target using virtual paper sizes much larger than A4 and turn them into a convenient target on A4 that is optimised for the i1Pro2 scanning table and afterwards I add those extra text lines to make it a kind of entry form that is very convenient for documentation.

to make good profiles for my Canon iPF-5100 printer with datacolor's spyderprint!

I need to raise concerns about the use of Spyderprint to create good profiles . Significant issues with this profiling package had been raised in this forum several times , and it was shown that very wrong profiles could be created ; it was not clear if that was an issue with the release version or handling/scanning problems or else causing such effects . Gamuts like this one with a hole in it and worse may get created without causing any warning

You're right but i'm mention using spiderprint in 2007 when the canon ipf-5100 was introduced! ;)
And it was in service until 2020 it was died at loneliness during covid. And after my wife's death. (not covid related).
Then you could make reasonable good affordable profiles with spyderprint. After the move of Adobe. I had never been able to make a ok isch profile with spyderprint.
