I think ConradH is living in printer heaven. i have both a Prusa MK4 and and an XL, and by far, the MK4 is a better printer than the XL. With the XL, I have to be careful not to use the entire depth of the bed otherwise it will knock off the other extruders (which is really to do). All they...
I've never had a problem with moisture getting into the bags. Just don't put the filament in over your sink. I squeeze as much air out of the bag after I put the roll in.
BTW, you should be able to get the bags at your local grocery store. I get mine at Publix. Get the thickest bag you can...
I keep my filament in 2 1/2 Gallon zip lock bags with some desiccant (most likely silica gel). You can get desiccant cheap at air conditioning supply houses. They use it for commercial refrigeration dryer/receivers. Most of the desiccant they sell changes color to blue when it is wet., pink...
Hate to disagree, but I have personal experience with belts. With the Prusa, I was getting layer shifting, even the y axis belt was fairly snug. I put a tensioner on the y axis belt, and much of the layer shifting went away. Inexpensive 3D printers SHOULD NOT require constant tweaking. Yes...
It's still a notched belt drive. You can see the belt in the just underneath the extruder. I hate notched belts because they stretch and needed to be carefully tensioned. The old plotters I helped design used flexible steel cable around a pulley with a spring tensioner. Neat design. 3D...
Perhaps Prusa printers are much higher quality than the Chinese printers, but I wouldn't know. All I know is that I had a bad Einsy board and needed some additional Y rod mounts before the thing would come together. I also had to shim things a bit to get them to align. I don't know the...
Yes, that is 18 Gage speaker wire. Unfortunately, it doesn't have polarity markings, so I had to use an ohmmeter to properly wire them. The panels are polarity sensitive. I use a adjustable bench power supply to test everything.
I got the panels here: https://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/...
As per popular request, the front view. I just stuck the LED panels on to see how they would light up the printer bed. I got the panels from a surplus house. The panels run on 12V, so they are wired in series. These are left over from another project. I'll permanently mount them when I find...
Well, I finished my new Octoprint box using a RPI2B (had one around), built a case for it, and have it running off the 24V printer power supply. I added two big LED lights to light up the printer bed that I can control from Octoprint. Here are some pictures. I designed the case using Alibre...
Nope. What will happen is that the belts will snap, or at a minium will stretch and/or the stepper motors will burn out. You can't throw that extruder carriage around like that have not have something happen. The old plotters I designed used really heavy servo motors (Slo-Syns) and very...
Sorry, but I'm not taking anything out of context. Depends what you define as "fun". Perhaps this is the wrong forum for me to be in.
RE: Color Management
The very thought of these words means that you are not satisfied with the colors you are getting on your printer. You take a picture...
Depends what material you make the toilet roll holder from. Using Alibre Design Expert, I could model a toilet roll holder in about 10 minutes so you can 3D print the pieces, but then, I am very familiar with a powerful tool.
3D design can be VERY difficult or not so difficult depending on...
You might look at FreeCad. I have been playing with it, and it's not bad. It does feature-driven modelling, which means you build up a model feature by feature (features are the things you add to a model, like circles, spheres, solids, lines, etc.). Then, you can go back and edit a particular...
Congratulations on getting your printer running. I'm still waiting for the return of a defective motherboard for my new Prusa I3MK3/S. I still have the Flashforge Creator Clone (Monoprice Maker) running fine.
I'm curious what design software you use? I did a commercial project and have...
Two totally different things.
To do color management well, you need to be able to profile your monitor and printer. For that you need a colorimeter or spectro. Then you need a monitor that can be profiled (many of then cannot). Expect to spend at least $1200 for a monitor that can be...
Thank you. I have put quite a bit of thought into a large 3D printer from an engineering standpoint. I have a small Chinese Prusa-type printer in addition to the Monoprice clone, and that printer is a piece of junk. I have modified the Monoprice clone and it works fairly decently now. I...
I have posted here before, but I'll introduce myself.
I am an electrical engineer with a great deal of knowledge in programming, system design, and network design. I also do some mechanical work and like to design things for 3D printing. I use the Alibre software for design, and Simplify 3D...
1) EE is an Electrical Engineer. I have a Master's in Electrical Engineering.
2) The CR10 is about as big a printer as you can make using the RepRap design. Look at the reviews on the TRex, which is 500 x 500. Problems scaling up a printer are:
Frame stability-You need a different frame...
How do I post things?
I was considering getting a Creality CR10, but I wanted something that I didn't have to futz with. 3D printing is not my hobby, making things is.
One day, I am going to build a 2' x 2' x 2' printer using commercial closed-loop motion control stuff. I have come to the...
