The head was covered in tape?
Are you referring to the colour cartridge? If so this could be the problem, if the proper print head tape was not used, and scotch tape or any sticky tape. I would go with Ghwelljr and buy a new colour cartridge. The glue from the tape has clogged the print...
Pharmasist, if you are referring to me, I use this site as an aid for myself and my work, as well as help others if I can, my website link has been removed for your peace of mind, it was not here as an advertisement, but also an aid to people looking for info that may help them.
Sorry for any...
Yes, I followed that discussion at the time, and was determined to find out what ink was in the compatibles I get from my supplier, I finally was told G&G, is the ink used in the Epson and Canon cartridges. I haven't had any problems with these compatibles (until now), I use them in my printers...
There are good quality compatibles out there, like everything else you have to watch who you buy from, try and get compatibles that use Image Specialist inks or OCP etc. High quality inks, it's the ones that use the cheep inks that give compatibles the bad rep.
Did you have any problems with Bronzing/gloss differential? My client uses glossy photo paper, and showed me a photo with the OEM inks (no visible bronzing etc) then the same pic with Image Specialist inks, the colors seemed to match up perfectly, but there is some bronzing in one section. Maybe...
From my understanding these cartridges have an internal spring (operates similar to the HP15/45 etc.). Has anyone had any experience refilling these? If so can you share your process please?
Much appreciated

Yes, I agree, just wish my customers would consult with me before they go out and buy a new printer. I did inform them that they made an unwise choice, when they called and asked if their cartridges could be refilled.

The PGI-5 is pigment ink, the sponge will not come clear because of this, flush till water comes out clear is correct. The CLI-8 cartridges are dye based ink, and will flush the sponges mostly clean.
Not Super glue, you'd never get them off again. The glue I am referring to is a glue stick, that gets heated/melted through using a hot glue gun, it hardens quickly, but you will be able to remove the chip for future uses. Also, I don't know where you are located, but there are chipped versions...
Here is info and a video for changing the chip over, if your cartridges do not have a chip holder built in as on the cartridges shown in the video, a small dab of hot glue will do.
