From my understanding these cartridges have an internal spring (operates similar to the HP15/45 etc.). Has anyone had any experience refilling these? If so can you share your process please?

Much appreciated

Wanda I have use the pro 9500 now for 9 months and started filling oem cartridges as soon as they were empty. They are as easy as any other cartridge to fill once you know what to do and what not to do. You will also need a resetter for the cartridges but the only problem I have encountered is the grey and the photo black cartridges wont reset as yet, and I dont know why. You will find an earlier thread I posted #24 with pics of the cartridge and where to drill and how deep (see below). Hope you find it useful..:)

Did you have any problems with Bronzing/gloss differential? My client uses glossy photo paper, and showed me a photo with the OEM inks (no visible bronzing etc) then the same pic with Image Specialist inks, the colors seemed to match up perfectly, but there is some bronzing in one section. Maybe a change in photo paper might solve this? Any suggestions would be appreciated, also client uses Photoshop, are there any adjustments in there that I can suggest to her?

I would recommend to choose for Satin or Pearl papers. I actually do not like glossy papers with pigment inks. The bronzing can be sometimes quite annoying with high glossy papers. Satin or Pearl paper still has a nice glossy shine on the prints and do offer a similar gamut compared to high glossy papers.

Tigerwan, my experience it is easy to refill Canon cartridge like PGI=9. Important to note that Canon cartridge code PGI means pigment ink, the other hand code CLI means dye based ink. PGI-9 internal mechanism like HP cartridge 15/45, it works like vacuum chamber so it has spring machanism. You cannot find the other hole for air ventilation except the hole for ink out. If you make new hole for refill, it s difficult to cover the hole by glue or tapa because the plastik foil is wet and also difficult to make the chamber cartridge to be vacuum. Make new hole is the wrong way to refill. Refill PGI-9 cartidge is same like Canon cartridge BCI-24 black or color, only drops the ink to the port ink cartridge (like sponge) and then press the cartridge slowly to bring out the air in the cartridge, do it several times and see beside the window transparant untill the cartridge full. After refill you can reset the chip but if does not the resetter, you can use the cartridge with the indicator ink empty int the monitor.
