How to generate a simple RGB printer profile using ArgyllCMS and the CR30 colorimeter/spectrophotometer

I repeated the workflow again with Europrint Satin paper with Inktec Powerchrome K3 ink in my Epson P900 using this particular 300-patch ArgyllCMS

I created a printer profile using the same target (a small one on 13x18 cm) for the i1Pro and one on A4 for the CR30 and this is the softproofing:

Top: i1Profiler
middle: CR30
bottom: no softproofing (orginal image)

You can clear see the slight warmer softproofing with the i1Profiler profile and the CR30 closer to the original image.

Note the white point: those are very similar using 2 different spectro's to read the same patch set.

Or you could just not use -r in printtarg to generate a fully randomised target and my awk script to generate the ti3 file. The script also takes csv files straight out of colorQC 2 with (an untested) version for csv files with semicolons and commas messed up by locales.

That said I don't buy all the greys sequentially in vertical columns are going to print differently when scattered randomly and you can't (currently anyway) scan targets with the CR30 so you don't need significant color changes between adjacent patches to help patch detection.

Ink sometimes gets dragged downwards by rollers; I now think randomizing is a good idea, although I prefer to look at targets by eye to assess the inking and there sequential ramps help.

The profile generation looks incredibly complicated, and probably a fool's errand for the general public such as me. But if I buy this thing, would it be good for spot checks with spectra? And would it be more usable than the i1Studio for that?

I have to decide soon, because the price more than doubles in 6 hours.

There is one thing I'd like to know: Can one one acquire data programmatically or does one have to press a button to make this thing work?

Yes you can use it for spot checks with spectra (see printscreen above), BUT AFAIK not possible for screen calibration, which the i1Studio can do.

Yes you will have to press the button to measure, but so does the i1Studio/Colormunki too.
