The section 10.6 of the MSDS is:

10.6. Hazardous decomposition products Carbon dioxide (CO 2), Carbon monoxide (CO), and/or Ammonia.

These decomposition products are the results of a decomposition, not the cause of it. Fire is the most likely cause of decomposition.

Cleaning the used cartridges with a liquid containing ammonia doesn't cause a formation of toxic gases.

Where is all this chemical analyses going too, both users and Canon have been using these products for years 100% safely with no ill effects, and if there were issues wouldn’t you think one of us would have brought it to everyone attentions by now..

Just go on using these Canon cartridges and enjoy all the pleasure it brings you, happy printing..

P.S. there are more hazardous products under the average kitchen sink in every home in the land, and that’s the place where most of us eat our meals..

The fact that Canon ink from PGI-9R carts might be a source of ammonia, albeit in very small quantities, indicates precisely that ammonia is not harmful for this ink or it would autodestroy itself.
Now, ammonia is not very good for many metals, so it's better to avoid a prolongated contact of the printhead nozzles with liquid containing a significant amount of this product. I don't think that Windex or similars have much of it, probably less than 2% or so. Therefore, it shouldn't be a problem to bath the bottom of the printhead in cleaning solution but, just in case, don't soak it for more than a few hours.

Mrs. The Hat makes you eat under the kitchen sink? At least you're allowed to eat indoors. I'm outside fighting for scraps with the dog.
