Hi, all-

Chip Resetters are a big, mysterious, gray area for me and I am hoping you will all gladly regurgitate your knowledge into this “printing chicklet’s” mouth (an analogy so disgusting it has me regurgitating a little.)

To provide a little context, I have an Epson P800 printer and I would like to reset my maintenance cartridges & possibly ink cartridges.

I watched Jose Rodriquez’s YouTube video “How to Reset the Maintenace Cart on the PRO 3800 and 3880”. This printer uses the same maint cart as my P800: the Epson T582.

In the video mentions using a QE 589 chip resetter.

What is the significance of “QE 589”? Is it revolutionary? Or new and improved?

I am guessing a chip resetter for a T582 cart will work in a 3800, 3880 or P800. Does this sound likely?

From what I’ve read it sounds like a 7 pin resetter might work for various chips, both ink & maint cart. Is this possible, or likely?

And how do chip resetters work? I mean in detail. What information is stored on the chips? I’d love some technical details on chip resetters.

Chip resetter boards appear to be pretty simple. I can't imagine they're all that different from printer to printer.

I have a 7 pin chip resetter that I bought to use with the ink chips on an Epson R2400. I tried it on my T582 carts and it flashed red then went to solid red. I’m guessing that may not have been a successful reset & indeed my printer didn’t allow me past the “insert a new cartridge” prompt.

Apologies for the rambling post, I’m hoping to get general chip resetter info as well as specific info for my situation.

Thank you,

Chris

I must admit I'm not really getting the essence of your questions - I'm not aware that the P800 is supported by any refill options yet - refill cartridges with Auto reset or one time chips or other methods - chipless firmware hacks - special trick adapter boards whatever. The chip on the waste ink tank is the smallest part of the problem.

My printer was modified for Direct to Garment printing and I am able to refill the ink cartridges easily enough, although the sometimes throws an error on 1 or 2 cartridges, but that can be remedied by removing the cartridges and reinserting them.

My main problem is the waste ink cartridge. My printer doesn't even use this cartridge, waste ink is dispensed into a plastic bottle attached to the side of the printer, but the printer still thinks it is using the waste ink cartridge.

If necessary I will keeping buying $20 cartridges that never get used, but it rankles to do so, so my first question is regarding a chip resetter for the WIC. I know Jose Rodriquez has one that works, but I'm having trouble finding a 'QE 582' resetter.

My second 'question' is much more general, I'm looking for general information on chip resetters, their history, how they work, etc. Just general knowledge that is useful to know...

Did you ask Jose his advice?

Regardless, here is a link to a waste tank resetter for the Epson p800 according to that web site. I make no recommendation. I have no idea if it works. Inkowl has been around a long time but I have never bought anything from them.

https://www.inkowl.com/wide-format/...on-stylus-pro-3800-3880-surecolor-p800/P7948/

You will need TWO waste tanks:

This resetter can only be used on a maintenance tank that is not already reading full. In addition, you will need a second maintenance tank, this one can be empty or full.

Inkowls video on resetting the waste tank:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbfmeEVTpiQ

Since you bypass the waste tank on your printer you will not need to source any absorbent material to soak up ink or frequently empty it to prevent spills.

There are probably more waste tank resetters on the market. Use Google to find them. I searched on "reset epson p800 waste ink".

the printer still thinks it is using the waste ink cartridge.
You are not changing/patching the printer firmware in this respect, you need a resetter to cheat the counter.
I have not seen any open discussion of the data and firmware in cartridge chips , there is plenty of space inside for any level of sophistication for the use of such cartridges, together with the firmware, blocking resinsertion, serialization, mfg date codes , manufacturer Id and more whatever Epson, Canon, Hp want to come up with. Just look to the processor in your smartcard, there is not more space. There are various generations over time, and yes you can reset several types of chips with one resetter in the range of home, home office, consumer type products

I'm hoping to hear from both Jose & mikling, who apparently sells resetters, via this thread.

I saw the InkOwl offering. It seems a bit overpriced at $40.

My printer came with an extra WIC, I've "used up" both of those and I just purchased a new one, so now I have three. Urrk.

If I can't find a 'QE 582' resetter for twenty bucks or so, I'll probably spring for the InkOwl resetter.

I just need to get one now, before I end up having to buy a fourth WIC.

Uffda.

I keep looking at all the 7 pin resetters out there and wishful thinking has me thinking they should work for my maintenance cartridge.

I'm sure I could go through a few hundred dollars of resetters that won't work for me.

How long did a waste tank last for you?

I installed my last waste cartridge in February, but I've only printed a few shirts since then. Most of the ink has probably be used in twice weekly heavy head cleanings.

Are the cleanings initiated by you or are they automatically done by the printer?

Do you know how many ml's of ink were spent per one cleaning?
