Hi,

A question about my MX925, if anyone can help.

When I install it on my Win 7 laptop, will it instantly update the firmware (from whatever version Win 7 has), in its back and forth communication with Canon, or is it safe to plug it in and let the wifi on the printer and the laptop do their thing?

I bought this because it can use non-OEM cartridges, apparently, and I'd like to keep it that way, if possible, so I don't want Canon to sneakily disable this ability from the get-go.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi @Willugh222 and welcome, the answer is no, your printer will not upgrade any firmware on you sneakily or otherwise, so your safe to use whichever cartridges you wish too... ;)

Thanks. :thumbsup

Am I in full control of updating the firmware? I don't need to identify 'canon' communication, via a firewall, and block it that way, or install some nifty utility?

Canon firmware up dates are all self-inflected, and if your printer is working fine then there should never be a reason to update, any updates put out by Canon are usually for their benefit and not the printer owner..
