I have a Canon MG6350 Wireless multi-function printer. I think I have branded XL Canon ink cartridges though it's possible they are good copies. The printer isn't used a great deal, though it is on standby most of the time.

When printing text, some of the text comes out blurry or doubled, and the problem appears to be associated with the PGBK ink cartridge.

I have run the automatic head alignment, nozzle cleaning and deep cleaning program and the effect is unchanged.

I've attached a couple of photos of the Nozzle Check pattern produced by the maintenance tools, which illustrates the problem quite well. The first image is a closeup of the PGBK pattern. The second shows the pattern for all colors and illustrates the effect on some text (at the bottom).

If I print a Windows Printer Test page, then the effect I see is a repeating pattern of 5 lines of text. One line prints right, 3 equally "blurry" and the other one darker.

The blurriness looks like it's printing each character multiple times but not quite lined up horizontally.

Any suggestions as to what might be causing this and on how to fix would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Jules

Most likely it is due to overheated Pigment Black nozzles that have warped. See here. The fix is a new print head.

It is possible that poor aftermarket pigment ink could be a cause for this malfunction. Canon print heads heat up ink when it is applied to paper. The ink acts as a coolant for the nozzles at the same time as substrate for printing. No ink or bad ink may permanently burn out nozzles or warp them.

If the printer is still under warranty then call Canon Tech Support. They will not help if you say you have used any cartridges other than Canon OEM or have refilled OEM cartridges.

Hello guys,

could you confirm if my prints/ nozzle check patterns are blurry because of overheated Pigment black nozzles? I tried to cook over distilled water, cleaned the encoder strip and use some Isopropyl Alcohol. Print color seems ok but If I take a closer look they are grainy/pixels before I gonna buy a new printhead or printer. If someone experienced the same things happen to me, I'll glad hearing you. Looking forward hearing you.

Enjoy your evening

Greetings

Alexander

- Not only poor aftermarket ink causing overheating,
even old ink too

- It is unlikely if this printer is still under warranty. It has only 12 months and it will be replaced by Canon TS models.

Hello Alexander. The nozzle check image is a little dark and needs to be cropped or a close up taken to visualize the Pigmen Black portion.

From what I can see, you have horizontal missing ink. this does not appear to be from warped nozzles and more likely from clogged or burned out nozzles or possibly a dirty timing strip.

If this is just clogged nozzles then I recommend first rinsing thoroughly under tap water and then soaking the print head in liquid dish washing soap such as Dawn or Fairy. I GENTLY heat the solution to LUKEWARM in the microwave WITHOUT the print head in the bowl. Place a wadded up paper towel in the bottom of the non-metal bowl of solution and rest the print head on top of it. Occasionally pump the print head up and down on the paper towels to help force solution inside the print head. Change the solution if becomes dirty or every 12 hours. Soak for at least 24 hours. Flush with water, distilled if you have hard water, let dry (or else a short circuit can occur with the electronics), and then try again. This is my recommendation. Others may suggest their procedures and cleaning solutions.

I tried to cook over distilled water
I do not know what this means. Please explain more fully. The word "cook" should never be associated with anything you do to your printer. Heat is not necessarily the print head's friend.

It is unlikely if this printer is still under warranty. It has only 12 months and it will be replaced by Canon TS models.
Who's printer are you talking about?

If a new print head is needed, Canon is the best place price-wise to inquire first. Generally, Canon only manufactures print heads for 5 years once the printer model is released. After that, you may find a new one on the internet. The print heads out of China for printers Canon no longer makes print heads are most likely refurbished no matter what the ad states. They often use counterfeit packaging. There is a high failure rate as well.

hello Mr. Stratman,

thank you for these advices.
I try to exactly explain about my problem.

my printer is a Canon MG6350 ( Year 2012, now 5 years old) same as Jules.
Before August 2017 vacation it worked fine ( not perfect) I used boiled distilled water for the first time before ( long time ago in 2015)

After I came back three weeks, the nozzle check pattern shows exactly like Jules: not very sharp, blurry in the middle of PGBK.

Then I tried one with distilled water and alcohol and last heated over boiled distilled water + alcohol and cleaning the timing strip. This is I think the forth time and the print appears like that actually. What I've found out is that old ink is not good, so I replaced new ones ( Octopus Office INK and Original Canon cartridges) still didn't work good.
Thats what I think about that I messed up the printhead, I didn't know how many celsius this printhead would survive?

Would you explain me about the timing strip ? Because it is difficult to reach. And not to forget is this timing strip purple or white transparent? I'm not so sure about it.

And about warranty, I don't have any because all Canon models give you in Europe only 12 months.

Next day I will print some test pages and you can see it more cleary. Is it ok?

It looks to me like the print head has been damaged in both pigment black and dye (photo) black, but a better quality upload of the nozzle check is needed to diagnose the print head. In stead of using a camera for the nozzle check, use the scanner in the MG6350 and only print on one side of the paper.

You might have tried scanning the nozzle check and got a bad result. The scanner is no good for this type of scan if you use default settings. For the proper settings for scanning a nozzle check with a Canon CIS scanner see this post.

I used boiled distilled water
If you mean you used boiling hot water on the print head then that is discouraged. You risk permanent damage to the print head.

You have nothing to lose at this point. I would soak the print head as I described.

Would you explain me about the timing strip ?
Did you click on the link for the timing strip in my post? All is fairly well explained, including pictures. The strip is clear plastic.

Hi guys, I tried your solution. Just soso, not happy with it. This is from a Canon IP 7250, that problem was my master only print black texts instead colors, so the yellow ink won't ink out.
I was thinking, that the nozzle of one color have been damaged, or the ink doesn't soak the printhead or something wrong with the fill in cartridges. I remark when I do a deep cleaning all colors except yellow soak the sponge from cartridges. Any ideas? Should I try again or buying a new one?
These are Octopus Fill IN cartridges.

Greetings

Alex
