My Switch to Maxify 2720

(The following was posted to HP thread due to transition (mistakes) to Canon Maxify 2720)

Hat. Of course I overfilled the refillables. They still looked overfilled when I emptied them. Only later did I see a warning somewhere about overfilling.

This (Sunday) morning, the Maxify printhead check shows no missing lines in the black top section. The printer LCD screen says there are no blockages. No cleaning required. However, printing a black two inch wide bar shows light streaks like two days back. ( http://www.refillinstructions.com/black.htm )

Two days back, "Starvation" is what I think I saw with the HP6968 ink running through the Canon Maxify 2720 printhead. Black text printing gradually improved with each page using the OEM carts. And, I'm not certain the printhead jets are all open. A test print of solid black with the OEM cart yesterday had a half the bars of not-so-black lines. ( http://www.refillinstructions.com/black.htm ) It would be good enough for black text. Maybe not for photo.

That big bottle of Canon IP4200 pigment black ink on the shelf will stay on the shelf and not go into the refillable cart just yet. My foolhardiness goes only some unknown distance.

On the bright side, none of the other three non-black HP6968 inks have had a chance to ruin the printhead.

1. If some Maxify printhead jets are blocked, is there a cleaning approach?
2. If the overfilled refillable carts leaked, where will the leaked ink be found?

I would appreciate a refill product recommendation for the Maxify MD-2720.

Does anyone have experience with LD company's ink? I have a cart for the Canon Maxify MD2720. I'm thinking about transferring the ink to a refillable cart.

Also, any thoughts about another company's universal pigment (claimed by company) ink? Both company's product quality are unknown to me. Here's a link:

I have no hands-on experience on the Maxify (mine is waiting in the box until I've learned enough from other fools ), but I am inclined to follow the information given by knowledgeable people.

In the US www.precisioncolors.com sells the ink (IMO the best pigments for Canon, I order from Europe), and also the small 1500 refillable carts.

In Europe you can find very detailled information at Octopus Office in Germany (IMO very serious, their pigment inks are technically OK but still suffer more from gloss differences and the colours are more off - both less a problem for an office printer).

The Ebay ink is a universal ink for HP. The seller claims it is a UV-resistant (whatever that means?) dye ink. I would not recommend it for the Canon Maxify.

Thanks for the mention. Hint.... I have been very busy working on a Signature Edition Line for the Canon Pro line in the near future. This will be a landmark line in the world of what is expected in refilling once I make it thru one or two hurdles. Nobody was expecting this.

Mikling, it seems nobody here doesn't like your ink. I'll buy some with confidence it won't trash the printhead. But, first ...
The good news is that none of the eBay ink will go into the printer. Amazon has a generous return policy. We'll see how my LD Ink return request goes. Their ink may be OK. I don't know. Then there is E-Z ink. I have asked to return their stuff. Finally, the Double2ink. We'll see if they will take back their unopened 100ml bottle.

druckerpatronentankstellen.de offers very low prices and seems to do most of their business with refill shops, the Epson comp. dye inks are faster fading than lots of other inks, and the pigment inks are o.k. on matte paper but not very pleasant on glossy papers - bronzing, gloss diff. and you need to profile those inks. You get what you pay for .

I asked how his Auto Reset Chips for PGI-2500 behave with recent firmware updates on the Maxify (reported permanently disabling the printer on the MB5450 and other 2016 models) and he did not know this problem.
Chances are low indeed that someone with a brand new Maxify will go to a refill shop right away (as we do ).

Octopus Office (among others) explicitily mentions to block reporting to Canon and automatic firmware update during setup, but if your printer already has a recent firmware you're lost.

This is something I want to figure out (and the main reason I bought the previous model from an outlet store).
I'll have to buy the ARC's in Europe anyway.

Truth is that it is likely that even though I do not manufacture my inks myself, I go through more real color and physical verification tests than the mfrs anyway and I am a beta test site for prototypes. In addition I perform some artisan skills on some inks where it is possible. I have also recently developed an in-house method for color analysis more accurate than what even the best aftermarket ink makers use. I have become more than just a reseller at this point.
