Hey U guys rock!!!! Thanks again for this wonderful input, all of you, for which I am VERY greatful. :)

I am sooooo very tempted to go the laser way, but since I posted yesterday I havnt gone back and done any research yet, as I thought I would just check in here 1st. I'll post here and then go take a look. Regarding running costs, at the very least I would certainly go for 3rd party ink carts, and a bit later I'd have a crack at doing refills.

Anyway, since the IP4000 is what I would call a good all rounder and moderately priced (for me anyway) its hard to pass this up. Also Ive remebered another thing,... Im intersted in printing out CD foldouts (the pamphlet type things with lyrics etc )for my next CD, which of course needs to be in colour.

QUESTION What is the smallest point size that a bubblejet/inkjet will clearly print text....
Perhaps I could elaborate: Looking at some of my CD collection, I totalled up the amount of lines they used for their lyrics on their foldouts/booklets. I found it ranged from 29 to 59 lines in an area 120mm x 120 mm with generally 2 columns. Most were in the mid 40s. If someone has the time and inclination I'd appreciate it if you could print say, 43 lines in 120mm, leaving about 3mm for the top and bottom edge. I know there are variables like font, line spacing, paragraph spacing, etc, but if I could get a general idea of what opinions are, that would be good. I know text is printed out clearer than what it looks on the 'puter monitor.

Cheers, MusicImage

PS: Oh, BTW Nifty, the other day, you got me sidetracked a bit, looking at your adventures with your pulletts etc. :) Hens are very relaxing to have around. My husband and I had some laughs (not mocking ones) with some of your adventures. I dont know if you folks in the USA have a lot of sheep but in my country we do. We have 3 pet sheep. When we've had hens in the past the sheep find them very settling and relaxing to be around, and the hens like the sheep too. They'll generally "hang out" together and the sheep will hang their heads over the hens and chew their cuds with sleepy eyes. We used to have them free range and the eggs are sooooo mucher nicer. They would also meander around making this very contented noise. I miss not having them, but we have a magpie problem and these birds are aggressive and will dive bomb the hens and put them off the lay. One day when we get around to it, we would like to get some more. Just my thoughts. :)

Hi - I am a cart refill newbie but certainly not new to computing. I have a new Canon Pixma IP5000. So far I love it! I had an Epson but got tired of the $25 + for a new cart. I purchased a refill kit from Weink and have just changed over to its inkset. So far so good! The new inks seem to be as good as the OEM. I had little difficulty following their instructions. A question, should I have left part of the tape on the top of the carts? I took it all off. I keep the unused carts in a vegetable container with a moistened paper towel to keep them from drying out. Is this a good idea? I have been lurking on this site for the past few weeks and have learned much. So, I thought I would join the group.

Mayo - were these Canon carts that you refilled? You are supposed to leave tape over the air vent and most of the little maze leading from the air vent toward the back of the cart. Leave the last "leg" of the air vent maze exposed. This lets air into the cart as ink is drawn out during printing and keeps the vent covered to minimize evaporation. I don't
know if taking the tape off completely permits too much venting that might let the ink flow out without demand from the printer. Haven't tried it myself.

No, these are not Canon carts. They came in the kit from Weink. They seem to print just fine without the tape in place. But, like you, I am a little concerned about my decision to pull the tape.

Call or email Weink and ask. I am presently using a set of MIS empty cartridges filled with MIS inks. I refilled the carts last night and noticed today when I removed the carts to inspect the print head uptake area the photo cyan head had a small quantity of ink in the well around the ink uptake. these carts arrived without tape over the top and were packed with a loose label that looked just like the canon OEM cart label. I called and asked a tech at MIS if I should put the label on like the OEM carts to cover the air vent hole and part of the maze and he told me it wasn't necessary. i'm going to watch it carefully and possibly apply tape like the OEM carts if there is too much flow from the carts. After first filling them they printed perfectly. I will print a few pics tonight and inspect under the cart again to be sure it is ok. BTW, some of the Weink prefilled carts come with Formulabs inks. Do you know which ink you received in the kit?

Thanks for the advice 'freek. I plan to communicate with Weink concerning this. I have no idea the brand of ink they supplied with their kit. The reason I removed the tape was the cartridge sponge in the first cart I filled did not seem to saturate at all with the tape in place. After removing it, the ink moved rapidly to the other chamber. So, I took it off of all 10 carts that were supplied with the kit.

Weink confirmed they use Image Specialist's ink. Also, I followed their instructions correctly...remove the tape on the carts before filling them, which I did. Seems to be good stuff.

Excellent! I'm glad my sources are validated.

Very good information for all of those looking for IS ink in quantities smaller than a few gallons! :D

Hello you Chaps!

I've wandered by here a few times in the past, particularly while trying to fix my ol' stylus pro with its clogged black head (R.I.P.) but now I've got a bbrand new shiny Canon, I thought I'd better register and maybe even get active here.

I decided before buying that I'd go the compatible/refill route, but here in jolly old England it's proving very difficult to get any information or feedback about any of the offerings from the very very many sellers of aftermarket ink.

I'd read Neil's comparison review where Ingrabber loomed large, so I contacted them with a view to buying a kit or a small handful of cartridges (tanks?).

After a bit of e-mail tennis Ingrabber finally informed me that "shipping would be at least $100"
This is tantamount to telling me to "$%^&* off!" as I read it, which is a shame because I'm not the only one over here looking for this particular solution.

I've just had a reply from my query to lotsofthings.com which is simply
"I'm sorry but we do not ship out of the United States" signed Andrea.

<sigh>
so - I'm still looking.

Talk to you all later...
