Which printer is the most ink efficient?

Stay away from the "universal" ink kits. My first was for black ink for an old Canon many years ago then graduating to an eBay purchase a few years ago. For a novice I would try an Inktec kit from Inksell.com or 4inkjets.com as the Inktec kit includes refill hardware including the priming tool (for HP). After getting the hang of it you could try different ink manufacturers since you will have the necessary hardware for refilling. Check out the Inksell website and view the video for the specific cartridge.

Judge the fade issue for yourself but do use decent ink and paper.
