What is the purpose of the black button inside the Canon Pixma IP3000?

What is the purpose of the black button inside the Canon Pixma IP3000?

Its only visible when you remove the top cover. As you are facing the printer, its on the right side, top, about 60% of the way back from the front. It sits next to something that looks like a black barrel. You push down on the button, but I can't tell what its does.

Are you talking about when you open the top cover to replace ink cartridges or when you take the printer apart?

When I took the printer apart, took the cover off, there is a black "reset" switch just outside, on the other side of the metal wall where you feed in paper from the top. Its the same type of black button in appearance that is under the on/off switch. I wanted to know its purpose.

I have yet to figure out how to take one of these printers apart so I'm just guessing here, but could it be the switch that determines when the cover is open?
