Walmart's new Ink Jet Photo Labs

There's an interesting forum over at Digital Photography Review concerning Walmart using Fuji ink jet technology for their photo lab.

I'm wondering how their ink would work in my Canon printers, and if it will ever get on the refill market. Also, might Fuji get into the ink jet printer business to extend their ink market?

Any thoughts?

Binkie,

I presume their ink (probably dye) works in conjunction with their paper (swellable ?) to obtain long lasting prints. High gloss prints cannot be achieved with pigment inks, which will cause bronzing and metamerism. And Fuji photo paper is known for its high gloss.

Every thoto lab I know except a few professional oriented labs for film only use ink jet printers if a customer needs prints larger than A4.

Refill ink what else, do you think they care about your photo longevity?

Costco's 11x14 prints are on Fuji Crystal Archive paper (chemical).

As I know that photographic prints matter when you are making a professional painting or snapping a picture. Whenever I start making a picture then first I check for the prints which I am using.
