Greetings and felicitations to one and all...
I had just bought and assembled a rather interesting Anet A2 when I had to have a hip replacement (nothing to do with the labours involved in screwing up ..oops screwing together the A2), more to do with aging bones and a life of climbing masts and ladders (and occasionally falling off them) ... perhaps the beer and cigarettes didn't help but hey ho there we go.
Anyway, managing to dislocate the hip whilst the week old incision scar was being inspected by my GP didn't help the curative processes at all, nor my respect for doctor's surgery.. HINT don't get injured at the surgery as the ambulance service assume you're in good hands and therefore your priority in the collection list goes down below that of dead bodies. So after around 9 months (rather than the six weeks quoted) I am getting back to my normal grumpy self albeit with a slight limp (good for sympathy). :old
So I decided to blow and hoover the dust and accumulated detritus off the printer. The blowing was a good idea, the hoover maybe not so good. I'm now in the process of fixing the wiring I broke and realigning everything but should soon be back to the level of being able to print something. Trouble is I got into researching too many things associated with 3D printing whilst incapacitated and need to step back and get the thing printing again.

None of the following is related to the fourum at all, but you got me interested. :caf

How the heck did that happen??? :ep

I'm from the US and maybe we use terminology differently. Why didn't they fix your hip since you were already at the surgery building? :idunno

Regardless, your "hint" gave me a laugh, hopefully you, too. :D

Very easily, Doctor said "Ok Lets have a look at the incision. Just lean over."
I was sitting next to his desk, the Hospital did say avoid low chairs, well I'm 6'5" so all chairs are too low for me but apparently, no definitely, low chairs are verboten for new hips!
Anyway, when a doctor asks you to sit down, you tend to obey, after all they're the experts aren't they? So leaned over as requested and OUCH (thats highlighted 'cause I screamed the place down (ever seen a doctor jump out of his chair ? Quite interesting.
Why didn't they fix your hip ?
Ah well, not only can't they fix hips but they wont even give you pain killers whilst waiting for the ambulance ( in case the paramedics
A GP surgery (General Practitioner) is where one visits the local doctor. He will diagnose, issue prescriptions and decide whether you need to see a specialist. These surgeries rarely have any surgical resources (surgery in name only). So off to the hospital (4 hours on a trolley in A&E) - good job it wasn't an emergency...., at least the morphine helped. Next day operated on to 'shove' the bone back. Well it's not bone anymore it's titanium.
I spent nearly a year waiting for the operation, it got cancelled three times (twice because the surgeon was ill - what's that about healing thyself "
So in summary, a surgery isn't for surgery unless its a surgery - simple really.

Having two replacement knees (now 20 years old), I enjoyed your posting. I can't say that anyone in the medical profession has asked about or examined them once the initial post operative period was over, maybe I have been fortunate.:)

I double clicked on "Old Leake" in the Location and Google rewarded me with a map and many pictures of the area, it looks very interesting. Lots of glass. It also shows that other people have the same opinion of the local hospital.

@RichardM - what a nightmare of a story! I would have been spitting nails if I were your physician at your care, or lack of.

If I understand, your GP Surgery is NOT a surgeon but a general practitioner, what is called a family practitioner or internal medicine physician. It is typically specialists - "surgeons" here in the US - that do the actual cutting. An orthopedic surgeon does hip replacement.

Regardless... a nightmare I hope you have recovered from.

Olde Leake seems a beautiful area in the pictures. Is this what a typical rural area in England looks like? Nice!

Beautiful may be too extreme an adjective. Calm, quiet, rural certainly, forgotten may be apt. The problem is if you want to buy anything other than daily essentials, potatoes, carrots, coffee, Glenmorangie, etc. then you have to travel or use the dreaded internet. We have no 'Tech' second hand shops near (I'm not even sure if any exist in the UK anymore), which I used to peruse as a 13 year old buying things with the intention of turning them into something useful... Hmm perhaps it's a good job they don't exist anymore as I'm exploring the possibility of building a 3D printer from scratch (mind games at the moment). I enjoyed building the A2 from kit form but I see little point in printing plastic toys so apart from repairing the damage I did with the hoover and printing a couple of cams for my gate controller I can't see it getting a lot of use but we will see.
