Yes, Canon PGI5/CLI8 series cartridges for IP4500 printers can be reset. You may:

A. reset cartridges with a chip resetter;
or
B. buy new compatible cartridges with chips.

I have 2 IP4500's one in use, one in storage just in case. Redsetter ($56AU) does the job along with the German method of refilling, works out at $1.00 per cart to refill sure beats $20 to $25 for new carts.

I have a ip4500 also...

You can disable the ink monitoring on the printer if you don't want to spend the extra money on a re setter and just keep an eye on the ink level manually.

Eventually you will have to do this anyways if you refill and don't reset the carts.
