No, have never done so. It appears I am doing it 'wrong' but I don't see why I need to cover up the air vent. The ink flows into the sponge, the reservoir fills up, the cartridge goes back in and works fine.

I've had some fantastic advice and help here but I do wonder if some people here are a bit obsessive? I've noticed people worrying about cartridges being removed for 5 minutes leaving the inlet exposed, but this has never given me problems.

Ok so yes I have recently had to flush the heads, but this was after about 3000 full colour passes (about 12000 photographs), if it was due to the inlets drying out I'd have the problem more than once in around 70-80 refills.
