I Tried re filling the colered cartriges useing a ink kit from printerfillingstation. My printer is a HP 309a. Thier directions told me to use the vent hole and this worked but I could only get 2ml of ink into each cartrige. When I put the cartriges back in the printer they worked perfect. The HP software told me I was just below 1/2 full when I started. The directions from printerfillingstation told me these cartriges held 8ml of ink. I expected to inject approxmatly 4ml of ink.

Note : The window on the cartriges showed an ink level of just to the top of the window. After injecting 2ml I saw no sign of an increase of that level in the window. I am thinking all I did was load the sponge. I went very slow even waiting 1 to 2 min then tried to push in more ink, no go.

My quetion is this normal or is there a better way to fill these cartriges ?

One thing: are you sure it is the HP 364XL and not the HP 364 normal version ? The HP364XL can hold up to 16 ml's of ink, whether the normal 364 cartridge can only get the sponge area soaked in ink. The reason is the normal version has no physical connection between the sponge area and the ink compartment (the side where you can see that little transparante window below the cartridge).

The best way to refill the cartridge is using the german durchstich refill method:

http://www.druckerchannel.de/artikel.php?ID=2191&seite=6&t=nr_364xl_schritt_1_patrone_vorbereiten
http://www.druckerchannel.de/artikel.php?ID=2191&seite=7&t=nr_364xl_schritt_2_kanuele_einfuehren
http://www.druckerchannel.de/artikel.php?ID=2191&seite=8&t=nr_364xl_schritt_3_patronen_befuellen

WARNING: you will need a 2 inch long and SHARP needle to succeed. Take care you can see the tip of the needle passing the transparant window below the cartridge, if not, then the refill will fail and causing a mess. So it must be TWO INCH long, any shorter and it will not work.

I prefer 18 gauge with Canon OEM cartridges, I don't know about HP. I have also used 20 gauge and they are fine except they are more delicate and easier to bend. I don't like sharp because they are unsafe and unnecessary for Canon OEM carts, I don't know about HP. You will need sharp with any cartridge that has a filter in its outlet port that extends up beyond the floor of the cartridge.

At present I am putting ink in the vent hole on the 564XL cartriges. This works well enough but I can only get about 2 ml on ink in each cartirge when they show less tha 1/2 full. They should hold 8 ml min so I expect to able to put in about 4 ml.

What I am going to try is the german durchstich refill method see the links provided by pharmacist. My printer is the HP 309a

I will report on the outcome probably about 2 weeks.

Actually using the vent hole is completely wrong. The problem is they presume you are using the normal 564 cartridges with no physicial connection between the sponge and the ink compartment. But you're 564XL does have it. So it can contain much more ink.

Hi I agree the vent hole does not allow a complete filling of the 564XL cartridge. As I am a Nubie at ink refilling I was folloing the directions from printerfillingstation where I bought the ink. Thier instructions were to use the vent hole on the 564XL cartridges and to refill the 564 either through the vent hole or through the out let pad. I sent them a message 2 days ago asking them about this , so far no response.

On a positive note thier ink seems to work fine. I printed out test pages before and after refilling and could not see any change in colors between before and after. I printed out pages after each color refill as I wanted to see if there was any color shift. I could not detect any change. Note I am not an expert by any means on colors.
