Quiet Mode?

I've always been wondering what Quiet Mode was good for, aside from lowering the printer's operating noises. I've noticed the printouts come out slower as well. However, is operating in Silent Mode good for the printer? I figure since it's not jerking stuff around inside, quieter may also mean smoother operation and therefore longer printer life.

Is there any substance to my theory, or am I miles off target?

I doubt if the "normal mode" was bad for the printer, the manufacturers would set all printers to "normal mode" by default.
