My printer came with pg-30 and cl-31.
I would like to buy the larger capacity pg-40 and cl-41 and refill the cartridges that came with it for back up and keep them stored.
I've been looking for the best way to seal these carts so they don't leak or dry out and have arrived at the conclusion to both clip them and seal them with static tape.

I'm told that blue tape is the best for print heads, then told that canon doesn't have print heads, use the orange tape. then i'm told canon pg-40 and cl-41 DO have print heads, use the blue tape. very confusing.

No one seems to know what the proper tape is.
The thing is, when I bought the printer, the instructions say to insert the cart, first remove the ORANGE tape.

is the ip2600 an integrated print head printer? as in, the print head is IN the printer and not on the cartrige???
or is the print head on the cartridges pg-40 and cl-41
and if so why would canon risk damaging the heads with orange static adhesive tape?

any input would be cool.
also has anyone tried using the blue tape on these carts or ones like them? if so how did they do with leaking and drying out? did they?
and was it difficult to do?
i read that i could apply the tape with a hair dryer, the roll, and my finger.

The blue seems like the smarter choice considering that it's a non-residue non-adhesive tape applied with heat.
sounds much more reliable.

The blue tape is the way to go with these, tape side to side, not front to back, tends to work better. It takes patients to tape without a machine, and have it not leak...Some put the tape on the clip over the foam (sticky side down), then clip the cartridge, rather than tape the cartridge then clip. Some spray water on the head, then put the tape on, holding tight with thumb for 5 seconds then clip quickly.

I personal don't used tape, I use the x-clip from R-jetTek with excellent results........and yes your cartridges have the print head attached.

good luck

I don't understand, does the color of the tape matters for preserving inkjet cartridges and/or printheads?:/

Yes , the blue non-adhesive tape that came with the cart/printhead is the safest. Unfortunately when first applied it was statically charged to grip to the face of the nozzle face, this static wears off when removed .
I re-apply it in place by cutting a 2 cm square from a cd/dvd clear thin protective disc (part of a disc cake box type) or similar , apply the bluetape (with moisture) to the square and then place the square against the cart face so that the blue tape is between the square and the cart face, the tape then becomes a "gasket". The square is then held to the cart by an elastic/rubber band.
