Have just bought several canon original cartridges which we have used dozens of times before but upon putting the Black and Cyan cartridges in the machine it is failing to recognise them with the red light remaining on. We have tried reloading the printer driver but to no avail. Any ideas please?

This problem has nothing to do with the drivers, but if you have never refilled or used compatible cartridges, then OEM Canon cartridges should work and if they don't, you should call Canon to see what they suggest. I'm guessing your printer is no longer under warranty or you would have already done this, but they may still be able to help you.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Buy a resetter (price of one original Canon cartridge) and try to reset the chip again. It could be the chip is faulty. If it cannot be reset, remove the chip of a used cartridge (same colour) and use this to replace the faulty new original cartridge and reset it. This way you can use original Canon cartridges.
