I have a 2-3 year old printer which appears to be failing the nozzle check. All of the colors are fine except cyan.

The test patters is darker cyan over the top half and lighter cyan on the bottom half. There are no streaks, just the light /dark split pattern

Have tried cleaning the print head numerous cycles and done repeated deep cleanings. did not help.

Removed the print head, soaked it in distilled water plus Windex. Sprayed with with alcohol to remove water and dried it under a fan for several hours.

Returned the print head to the machine, did 2 deep cleaning cycles after the print head was prepared by the software. Still have the split cyan test pattern on the nozzle check All others are fine.

Time for a new print head? Anything else to try? If so, any recommended vendors?

Thx

All of them! LOL
You need a new head! The 50% dark and light band indicates an electrical problem with the head. From what I've learned from The Hat.

Yup, that was my guess. Glad to have it confirms so quickly by both Joe and The Hat.

Looks like new print heads are ~ $150 on eBay, refurbs about $90.

Any body have any experience with refurbished print heads? Better to stay with new part?

Thanks

Great it worked out...in Uk that head costs 100- 140 or $150-$210 in US money. We can get a new IX6550 for that here. No wonder so many printers head for the dustbin!

I see Amazon are selling the A3 IX6550 for 149. Any comments on its performance?
