The 'larger' cartridges I'm referring to are for a 'wide format' Canon, not the Pro10. I seem to remember some of the

For large carts I mean the ones used in the Pro1000 and bigger models. I thought that the composition of the ink used in PGI-72 carts was exclusive of the Pro10 but, as @The Hat says, if PC sells OEM PGI-72R (it's clearly written in the bottle's label) then it's not unlikely that cartridges for larger format Canon printers use the same red ink formula.
Mike won't tell and we shouldn't ask him, because it's none of our business where he gets this red ink, as long as it's genuine Canon and performs flawlessly ( which it does).

Do you buy suits from the back of a van in an alley? o_O

It is perfectly acceptable to ask why you are paying 3 times more for Red than the other colors. It is perfectly acceptable to ask that you heard that this is actual OEM PGI-72 Red and if so from where. To think it is none of your business as the paying customer is silly. If Mikling does not want to answer or hedges then it's up to you on how to proceed.

Canon were, BUT 3D is better..
I don't reckon it's a secret, because the cartridge to get is the Canon PFI-1700 Red, and that will keep you in red ink for the lifetime of your printer, (About 25 refills) a cheaper option would be to get supplied by PC inks.. ;)

700 ml for $294, for imagePROGRAF PRO-2000 and PRO-4000 large-format printers, seen on Google. I think Mikling's sales are safe. Doubt many will shell out that kind of money at one time. Plus, doing the math, Mikling is making very little for his work, unless he finds these cartridges at steep discounts. Precision Colors is a quality source for refilling supplies. :thumbsup

Yes, that's too bad. I buy Octoink products for most of my needs, but PC comes handy for things like Canon PGI-72 OEM red. Mike suggests using an International forwarding service from the USA. I may look into that but I suspect that total shipping costs would be proportionally high for low priced packets.
