I'm looking for a cheap printer for school. It'll mainly be used for black and white document printing. No pictures, photos etc. Printing speed makes no difference. I'm not in a hurry. Size doesn't matter either as long as the thing isn't ginormous. What I want is simple:

USB printer.
Cheap.
cheap and/or longlasting ink cartridges. (I guess this may be allieviated by a 3rd party cartridge supplier? If so, finding a good one would be much appreciated also.)

I saw a pretty simple Lexmark printer, I wish I remembered model number, at Walmart for $25, but the black ink cartridge was $33. Is that pretty average as far as price? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

If I were doing monochrome prints in a school I would get a cheap laser printer, and one which has refillable toner cartridges.

Agreed... you want a black and white laser that has a good life on parts and cheap but reliable toner. Don't go with inkjets.

If speed is not a concern, look for an old HP (I have a 712). Huge 40 ml black ink cartridge which is easy to refill - been refilling for several years. Printing cost is minimal.

Sorry, parallel port and not a USB printer.
