Pixma MP520 repair manual anywhere?

Hi, am a newbie here, lots of good topics
Have searched all over for a repair manual for my MP520, which needs a new flat cable to the display (I have located one on a swedish site), and have the parts manual for it, but gosh there are a lot of parts in there!!
I saved a site from a French guy, I believe, to my computer (don't have the url, and the pics links on it are no longer available) but he goes thru the whole process to do the above, just no pics.
I also have been experiencing a little "chattering" on startup, which seems to be a wheel slipping on a drive cog belt just beneath the scan glass. Don't know how to get the cover/case open there (seems to be pretty tight, no visible screws) to have a closer look.
So a repair manual is needed to get a safe way to get it opened up!

You find a download containing both service manual and parts catalog here. AVG Internet Security found no threats in the download.

The service manual has some disassembly instructions and instructions for replacing the scanner cable. Sadly there is no instructions for disassembling the scanner unit. The name "scanner unit" suggests that it is not repaired in servicing but replaced as a complete unit.

I don't know how to disassemble the scanner unit to check for worn gears and mechanical blockages, maybe others have experience taking the scanner unit apart?
