Will I stand a greater chance of clogging my nozzles, messing up the purge system, or saturating the waste tank wicks if I use pigment black for the pigment black position in my CISS? Currently, I think my CISS is using dye black for both the PGI-5 and CLI-8bk cartridges.

If I were to use pigment black in its correct slot, do I have to take special precautions in a CISS system to prevent the pigment black from forming sediment?

The answer to your question is a simple one, DONT ATTEMPT TO USE PIGMENT INK IN A Canon CISS. :(
The CISS system will clog in no time at all (usually hours) and will need a complete clean out to get it to work properly again.
If you have a need to use pigment ink then switch to refilling OEM cartridges..

Sounds reasonable. I guess I could also use the pigment black OEM cartridge in the one out of five slots that uses it, then use dye ink CISS in the other 4. Thanks for the advice.

You've all had good luck using pigment black refill ink in the Canon OEM PGI-5 cartridges then? No clogged nozzles?

My advice was to use OEM cartridges instead of the CISS cartridges not including.
The CISS is only good when you need to do a hell of a lot of printing; otherwise refilled OEM cartridges are just as cost effective and more reliable. The pigment ink I use is KMP from Octoinkjet and to date has never clogged once.. :)
