I sold my previous K1 Pro, because I wanted multi-colour printing:

Keep us posted!

When I got my Bambu H2s, I knew I wouldn't print multi-color very often... and didn't need a huge bed very often either.

... turns out it's even less often than I thought. I figure 95% (or more) of my prints (97% being PLA and the rest TPU) all work just fine on my A1-mini... and almost always single-color.

I did a dual-color print for a friend, but it was a single color change at one level, so it was actually easier to just swap out the spools manually mid-print.

Frankly ,if I wanted to do a lot of multicolor/multimaterial printing, nowadays my money would be on a real tool changer system. They’re becoming affordable and also seem to perform well (Snapmaker U1, FlashForge creator 5..), Right now the most interesting IMHO is the upcoming Sovol M1D, Sadly, I’ve been following their kickstarter campaign, and it seems that it won’t be released before the end of 2026, as previously announced, but probably until next spring.

So, I decided to forget multicolor for now and I got a Bambu Lab XD2 instead.
Dual nozzle and rather small print volume, if compared to my Voron. It’s great for dual color/material printing but wasteful in time and filament for more than three colors.

I have to say that I’m impressed by the performance of the X2D. Of course, Voron's totally open source philosophy is the opposite pole of Bambu Lab restricted ecosystem, so I have to use both systems with a different mindset. What is fine for a Voron it isn’t for a Bambu Lab and vice versa.

I have the strong suspicion tough that this XD2 won’t last nearly as long as my outdated and pedestrian Voron 2.4, which I can always mod or repair if a problem arises. If my Bambu Lab develops a serious problem after is out of warranty.. game over.

400 hrs in on my U1 and it has exceeded all my expectations, especially the lack of filament wastage. Also running it on a separate LAN and no cloud connection is a bonus. Updates to the firmware are done by plugging in a USB stick and rebooting the printer. Snapmaker are by far the most open and attentive manufacturer on the market at present.

The Snapmaker is great value for money if you print only PLA/PETG, but clearly is not intended for ASA/PC/PA or any other demanding filament.
Months ago, I was temped to get one, but after looking at the specs and how it’s built, I decided to pass. As good as it performs it looks to me like a flimsy toy that won’t last long. Maybe I’m wrong. but I’m used to machines with linear rails in all axes and 4 independent Z motors for a proper bed /gantry calibration. Of course most brands, including Bambu Lab or Prusa use a single Z motor and steel rods ( or worse carbon ) instead of linear rails.
That's why I was interest in the M1D. I always thought that Sovol only manufactured cheap Voron clones, but the M1D seems a very solid and well designed machine with impressive specs : XY linear rails, 4 Z steppers, IDEX system, 7 tool heads, open source. Lets wait and see if Sovol delivers what they promised or this M1D project drags for months and months ...
Besides, for sure Bambu Lab will release a real tool changer soon, although it won’t cheap ( around 3K I guess ).

Nice upgrade! Two CFS boxes should give you plenty of colors to play with, haha. Looking forward to seeing what you print with it!
