New Canon Desktop printers & new cartridges/capacities

I have ordered the new CLI-42 and PGI-72 cartridges and as soon as I get them I will report back with information and pictures,
Ill also have a bash at resetting the chips with some of my older resetters..

standard cartridge with a range of 300 ISO pages (black) to 330 pages (color). The optionally available XL versions are sufficient for 500 black and 690 color pages.

I don't think that overfilling could increase the capacity of the cartridge by 66-100%. Maybe they are doing it HP style: standard - ink only in the sponge, XL - ink in the sponge+ink chamber.

Tudor, the number I am referring to is the second table of the test. The 525 to the 550XL is more like 330 to 500 and the 526 to 551XL is actually 510 to 690. The 525 could be a 34% underfill and the 526 is a 26% underfill. Since we don't see how much ink is inside the 525/526, then we really don't know how much is in there.
The new standard size might be a neutered 525/526 like HP's style, Yes.

But can the XL be a fully filled body and the 525/526 an underfilled one? That is the point of intrigue. Who has compared the weight of a new 525 and 520 and the weight of a 526 and 521 or 220 vs 225 and 221 vs 226 in North America.???? Could this be the real reason why Canon put in the blacked out carts after the 520/521 or 220/221? That we would not see the underfill? I don't know. Also another point of consideration is that if the form factor of bodies are the same then how can they get more ink into the same form unless one is underfilled?

PGI-525 - 35gr
CLI-526 - 21gr
I measured the cartridges new (clip and wrapper removed). I don't have a precision scale, but the weight seems to be the same as the older cartridges (520, 521).

l.e.:
ok, I bought a precision scale and measured the weight of one 521 and one 526. The cartridges were flushed, centrifuged, wrapped in paper towel as per ghwellsjr's instructions, centrifuged again with the towels on and left to drain for one hour. The sponges are not perfectly dry, but not very far of it.

Both empty cartridges are 10,7 gr (plug included). That means about 10 gr of ink for the 526.

I think I'm going to have go buy a printer and test some of these theories out instead of piddling in the wind on theorising...
