Need help for creating sublimation icc with ChromIQ

Hello everyone!





I’m using ColorMunki Design and ChromIQ to create an ICC profile for glossy white aluminum sublimation panels.





I printed 700+ patches with ChromIQ, and 40 of them came back with a red border. When I tested the profile, it said “needs more work,” and ChromIQ told me to refine one of the patches.

I have a few questions:
1. Do I need different color patches specifically for sublimation?
2. How many patches is ideal — 100, 300, or 1000?

It depends: do you print with a standard printer or do you use a RIP-driven printer with special inks (like white ink) ?

Normal printer means: RGB printer profile and 300-400 patches should do well. The ChromIQ patch engine will normally sample the entire RGB colour space as good as possible with the chosen amount of sampling points.

For RIP-drive printer you will need a CMYK printer profile and this needs more than 1000 patches to be satisfactory.

I presume you know that the scan is on the sublimated aluminium panel after curing and not before the sublimation process, as this is the final product you want to colours to be as accurate as possible with a printer profile ?

I'm using Epson f500, it's 4 ink Cmyk with no white. I'm scanning on sublimated panel

I want colors to be accurate as possible

I mean: you do use the standard Epson driver: this mean RGB printer profile (sounds a bit strange because you use cmyk, but you don't use a RIP-driver thus RGB).

I suggest to choose the TC3.00 target in ChromIQ, which uses 300 patches and is manageable with your Colormunki. You have to scan the target after the sublimation has been done on your aluminium panels and properly cured to measure the final colours after the transfer.
