Printer Model
Epson dtf
Hello everyone,

I ordered a DTF printer with a configuration of 5 printheads from a reputed company. The company delayed the printer shipment for a long time, citing the unavailability of the Powder Shaker.

Later, we requested them to dispatch the printer separately and send the Powder Shaker whenever it became available. However, we still haven't received the Powder Shaker.

When the printer arrived and we opened the package for installation, we discovered that the printheads were missing. After we complained, the company admitted that they had forgotten to include the printheads. After another considerable delay, they finally sent us 5 printheads separately.

However, after receiving them, we noticed some concerning issues:

  1. The serial number on the printhead box does not match the number printed on the printhead body. The company claims that the printheads were accidentally packed in the wrong boxes.
  2. When the printhead is placed on tissue paper, a magenta-colored liquid appears. The company claims that this is cleaning liquid injected into the printhead.
  3. There are visible scratches, marks, and some signs of possible physical damage on the printhead body.

Despite these issues, the company insists that all five printheads are genuine, brand-new Epson products supplied directly by Epson.

For now, I am uploading photos and a video of only one printhead. I will upload photos and videos of the remaining four printheads later.

I would appreciate expert opinions on the following:

  • Do these printheads appear to be genuine, brand-new Epson products?
  • Are mismatched box and printhead serial numbers normal?
  • Is the company's explanation technically reasonable?
  • Could these printheads be refurbished, previously used, or repackaged units?

I am deliberately not disclosing the supplier's company name because I do not want to damage its reputation or business. My intention is purely to have an objective technical discussion and get opinions from experienced professionals.

I would especially appreciate feedback from people experienced in Epson printhead manufacturing, distribution, sales, and repair.

Please examine the attached photos and video and share your honest technical opinions.

Thank you for your help and valuable experience!

The original Epson print head (for example, the popular I3200-A1 / I1600-A1 series used in DTF printing) comes in strictly industrial packaging.

Key features of original packaging:

  • Outer Box: A compact box made of dense, unbleached brown kraft cardboard without any bright color printing or promotional graphics.
  • Factory Label: A white informational sticker applied to the end or lid, displaying:
    • Model (e.g., PRINT HEAD, I3200(4)-A1 or I1600-A1).
    • Part Number / Parts Code (e.g., C14FA71000).
    • Country of Origin (Made in Japan).
    • Head ID (unique barcode and calibration encoding).
  • Internal Protection: Inside the box, the print head is secured in a custom-molded insert made of expandable polyethylene (EVA) foam or rigid cardboard to prevent movement during transport.
  • Anti-Static Bag: The head itself is sealed in a thick, airtight silver (metallized) or translucent bluish ESD shielding bag to protect it from static electricity and moisture.
  • Storage Fluid: Clear bluish or pinkish factory shipping liquid may be present on the nozzle plate or inside the ribbon cable connectors to protect the piezo elements from drying out.
Note: Original Epson commercial print heads feature a QR code / Head ID laser-engraved on the metal housing of the head itself, which matches the data on the box label.

The source of this information is the official Epson equipment technical and service manuals (Epson OEM Technical & Service Manuals for the I3200 Series), as well as technical documentation from authorized industrial printing distributors (including transport and storage requirements for piezoelectric print heads).

Key regulated elements of Epson packaging specifications:

  1. ESD / Anti-Static Specification: Epson inkjet microelectronic components are supplied strictly in ESD Shielding Bags to prevent damage caused by electrostatic discharge breakdown.
  2. Shipping Liquid Protection: The use of a factory preservative (a transparent, flushable fluid) is prescribed in storage routing sheets to prevent residues of factory test fluid from drying out.
  3. Head ID / Matrix Code Tracking: The presence of an alphanumeric code and QR code on the head housing matching the package label is an official Epson requirement for entering calibration data (Voltage & Timing Correction) into the RIP software or printer control board.

Official service manuals and technical specifications for the Epson I3200 series print heads belong to the category of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) documentation. Epson does not make them publicly available to end users, as I3200 print heads are supplied exclusively to printer manufacturers (OEM partners) and authorized service centers.

However, these documents can still be obtained or downloaded through the following channels:

  1. Official Epson Portals (for Partners):
    • Epson Partner Portal / Customer Support Portal: Technical documentation sections are restricted to registered OEM clients, system integrators, and authorized service centers. If you represent a legal entity or equipment developer, access can be requested via your regional Epson Business Solutions office.
  2. Official Printer and Control Board Manufacturers:Because I3200 print heads are integrated into third-party printers (such as Smart, Gongzheng, Audley, KingT, etc.) using electronics from Hosonsoft, BYHX, Wuhan Riin, or Blueview, setup and transport documentation is provided by:
    • Board Vendor Engineering Portals: Developer support sites for controller boards (e.g., Hosonsoft or BYHX) host connection diagrams, pinout schematics, and Head ID programming guides.
    • Distributor Technical Support: The distributor that supplied your DTF printer or print head is obliged upon request to provide the Epson I3200 Series User Manual alongside preservation and transportation protocols.
  3. Specialized Service Documentation Repositories:Maintenance engineers frequently utilize specialized archives and technical forums hosting original Epson PDF manuals:
    • ServiceManuals.net / User-Manuals.com: Certified service manual databases (searchable via queries like Epson I3200 Service Manual PDF).
    • Print-Forum / DigitallySmitten / Sign-Forum: Dedicated wide-format and DTF print engineering communities whose file repositories feature datasheets (Datasheet Epson I3200-A1 / E1 / U1), pinout diagrams, and flushing/storage procedures.
Caution when working with OEM Documentation:When performing manual configuration using a Service Manual, strictly observe the power sequencing: disconnecting or connecting the ribbon cable while the motherboard is powered on will inevitably burn out the drive transistors and control board fuses (F1/F2).
