If anyone can response to following questions, I would appreciate it:

1) Many threads claim that the CANON's do not well with CISS systems.
1.1 Anyone got CISS to work well?
1.2 If so, what link to purchase.
2) Second best option is to re-fill OEM cartridges.
2.1 Amazon has a complete kit for around $ 145.
2.2 Is that a good option?
2.3 Alternative options/vendors?

Thank you for all your time and considerations!

Canon tries to make all their printers as difficult as possible to work well with CISS.
You can get them to work but it can be a frustrating and messy business.
The pro 9500 M. ll however will not work at all with a CISS so dont waste your money.
Also third party cartridges are not a good idea on this printer because they too can end up very messy.

The Hat,

That is grim news-

Who can't afford $ 100 for CANON re-full set. Their must be a way? --- or maybe sell the printer instead, and get me an EPSON 1400 to replace it.

Anyone has good luck with any good options with this printer???

Appreciate your comments and advise.

Thanks,

The Epson 1400 sounds like a good idea all right, but you could try refilling the OEM cartridges with 3rd party inks yourself..:)

Hi,

It looks like only alternative is re-fill OEM Cartridges....

Anyone can recommend a vendor in USA -- hope they have a full kit! What about the amazon kit?

I am learning ---- 4ink has filled cartridges for the MARK II with several versions of black. photo, black, matt, etc.

What is the purpose of these different black and gray cartridges?

The CANON default cartridges uses what version of black??

Thanks,

Anyone can recommend a vendor in USA
InkMiser Mentioned earlier on another thread that he was using InkJetCarts for ink so you could give them a try or find one that is supplied with image specialists inks, like precisioncolors.com.
The two different blacks and grey are to give better halftones and highlights I believe. :)

Based upon posts in this forum, as of a few months ago, I found myself considering eFillInk which was selling an ink and replacement cartridge combination for $728. This sounded like a lot of money when I hadn't yet determined that refilling was even going to work for me. So I went with Inkjetcarts. I picked up ten bottles of ink for $140. Each bottle should be good for close to ten refills.

I'm only now getting around to profiling these inks with my papers. I can give you my own subjective reaction to them in a day or two.

I had a look at the Inkjetcarts site for the PGI-9 inks and noticed they only show the black and grey as pigment ink or is this just a site error, can you confirm that all the inks are in fact pigment.. :|

Their site takes a bit of navigation but their PGI-9 inks are identified as pigment. Here's a link to a bottle of their red refill. I notice, btw, that my numbers yesterday were off. You get 120 ml which should be good for about eight refills. I had written 140 ml. The bottles on the site are labeled "IJC CMAX" although you can see the first few letters of "Pigment" on the right side. The bottles that I received a few months ago, however, were labeled "Lucid Pigments". I wonder if they didn't get some heat from Canon on that account.

I've often asked myself the same question with respect to the PBK and MBK cartridges. My experience has been that I go through the PBK carts like water and the MBK carts, hardly at all. I ran a test yesterday, printing a few all-black sheets of paper and weighing the carts before and after. I found that ordinarily the MBK cartridge level wasn't being used. However, if I identified the media type as one of the Canon Fine Arts papers, i.e. the ones that don't permit borderless printing and force you to (i) use the front feeder and (ii) give up large margins, the print driver substituted matte black for photo black.

I've read elsewhere that matte black is supposed to give a deeper black than photo black. I tend to steer away from matte papers as, while the prints can look very good, their range of tones suffers in comparison when compared to the same print on a satin, pearl or glossy surface. I believe that matte black is supposed to restore some of the rich blacks that one gives up when printing on matte surfaces. I also read that although it is a very deep black, it is non (or less) reflective compared to photo black. And that this is supposed to be an advantage for prints that are displayed behind glass. I'd be curious if anyone else here can shed some light on this. I'm now interested in building profiles that would use MBK instead of PBK if I'll end up with richer looking prints.

HTH.

ps The short answer to your question is that Canon defaults to PBK when not using its Fine Art papers.
