Your purge unit has a problem it’s either stuck in the down position or is out of place and can’t move, well that what the manual says about 6A81..

That’s the culprit alright, that whole area can get covered in a lot of ink and can get very messy and sticky and the purge unit may not be able to move or function properly because of this.

It can also get a bashing from the print head as the head moves back over it, this is when it can get knocked out of position causing it to malfunction, any one of these issues can bring up error 6A81.

The purge unit has one or more position sensors. Depending on printer model these sensors could be mechanical or optical. If the ink absorbers overflowed and stained the line feed encoder disc, ink could also have stained an optical position sensor in the purge unit.
