I was able to reset my Maxify 5350 with service tool 5204.

Disregard virus warnings, it is a false positive caused by the hack code (most virus scanners have solutions for this).

First install the printer on the USB port (disconnect the LAN cable and desactivate the LAN on the printer screen).

Enter service mode with the usual procedure (5 pushes on the red stop/cancel button on the right).

Start service tool 5204 (you need to enter the key provided by the seller)
Check if you see the serial number on top.

Execute the EEPROM print function (do not forget to select Cassette)

Execute the Ink Absorber Counter Set function

Print EEPROM again to verify.

Conclusions:

Most of my prints were A4 plain colour and half of them double sided, so I printed almost 25000 sides using about 2 liters of ink.
The ink absorber was 53.8%, I was expecting more capacity (although I would have reached 5 years of rather heavy use).
I am working on a solution to guide the waste ink to an external container (did this before with the MX7600 and PRO-9500).

This ST5204 seems to be fully functional and should be able to reset other printers - estimated unfeasible until now - as the PRO-10 (reported recently by @Manu ).

Great news..:)
I see that your counter was D=053 with a total of 15600 pages printed. Of course, that figure is highly dependent on the size of the paper and kind of jobs printed (color, b&W text,. etc..) but we have now a good idea of what to expect. Maybe 25-30K pages to reach D=100. Probably more if most of the prints are B&W text.

Someone knows where DL stands for in the EEPROM print ?
It jumped from 00033 to 01000.

Excellent job with the test of ST V5204 and report. :clap Also thanks to @Okks and @Manu for good posts discussing service mode and newer printers.

I don't know and I also noticed a W=016.3 value.

Printers of the PGI-x25/CLI-z26 cartridge generation have a DF-value, which is an estimated number of months till absorber replacement becomes necessary. Maybe the DL value is something similar? See this clip from the MG5100 series service manual:

Indeed, without them I would not have risked this .

For my Maxify DL=33 meaning 33 months absorber life seems a rather accurate estimation (so I have still 33-24=9 months to change the pads or install a potty).

In the EEPROM print of @Manu 's new PRO-10S DL is also 1000, probably the maximum value.

I see that W does increase with printer life and is not reset.
What does this mean ?

So now your Maxify says that the absorber will last 1000 months more.
I hope you live enough to see that figure go down to 24.... ;)

It is rather easy to calculate the number of months remaining based on the pages printed since the printer installation (or waste counter reset with subsequent change of the pads).
At the rate I print the 1000 will go down fast ;).

I opened the right side, where the printhead parks - 5 screws and a few clicks as seen here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WD5h0-2HLhU
- don't go as far please.

As can be seen on the video and attached photos the (rather complicated) purge system ends with 2 tubes in a T on top of a container in the rear right. This is not a closed container but a tower with absorbing pads separated by air.
Ink drips first here and what did not dry drains down in the usual pads in the bottom right.

As you can see at 53% most of the bottom is still white.

I choose not to be a hero now, but it should be quite easy - when the pads are saturated - to redirect the 2 purge tubes to an external bottle, eventually a square shaped one that can be fixed with a velcro in the open space behind.
