I keep getting this banding on Magenta areas, the attached is a 16bit Tiff file. The printer has had medium use with a new printhead fitted about 2 years ago. The other colours are fine.

Thanking you in advance.

Paul

Did you notiice that the banding is not limited to just the square magenta area? White areas amplified in picture below show bands there and continuing across the magenta square area. Might be a clue.

It would also help if you shared the results of the nozzle test.

Of course, here is the nozzle check, it's fine.

You say this is a Pro 10 ?, so what type of carts and refill ink are you using, because from what I can tell from your nozzle check, the Magenta/ and PM and Cyan/ and PC are using the wrong inks.

Try using a new set of carts and see how your image looks..
ONLY OEM carts will work properly on a Pro 10..

I wonder if the magenta banding outside the magenta square is an artifact caused by image compression? If not I think the printhead and/or the main board has suffered an electronic damage.

I agree with The Hat that the banding looks like it is caused by ink starvation.

For what I can see, there's no visible problem on this test. but I reckon that this photo isn't good enough for my ailing eyesight to detect slight bandings or any other issue.
@Paul Edmunds, couldn't you post a good scan of this nozzle test ?.

It's very likely that the PM, M, C and PC carts have the right inks on them because in my nozzle tests I see similar densities in the bands of these colors, I'm using a mixture of Octoinkjet and OEM inks.

Ok, a better scan attached.

The Pro 10s is printing beautifully apart from heavy magenta areas, proving that the right Octoinkjet in the Canon original cartridges is correct. I spent 43 years in the Litho printing industry, so I am used to dealing with ink etc.

It's just the Magenta!

Thank you for all your help.

Ink starvation is more usual with sponge based carts, but the Pro10 cartridges have no proper sponge, only a thin felt pad at the ink output. Anyway, it’s possible that the pad of this cartridge, after being refilled many times, became partially blocked with dried ink, so it can’t cope with the huge demands of ink on large areas of solid color. If, as I expect, you have a second set of carts it’s easy to check if that’s the problem.

The only other explanation that it occurs to me is an issue with that specific batch of magenta ink. Is it Octoinkjet ?. In the past I had similar problems their red and magenta inks for the Pro10, Nowadays, I only use Octoinkjet for the cyan and grey carts. I refill the other colors with OEM ink extracted from Canon tanks for large printer models.

Hi. I have fitted a new original cart with the same results.
