looking for a good src for canon MP830 ink waste pads ???

have about 8 months left on my MP830 until i hit 100%

try to decide if cleaning the pads or replace w/new pads make sense

leaning toward taking a shot at replacing w new pads

I have cleaned pads for an MP780 and aside from it being a terrible mess, some of the pads end up not being as thick as they started out. I had squeezed all the pads to help get ink out and most of them returned to their original thickness but not all of them. They are made out of different materials. Also, like the sponges in the Canon pigment carts, the pads did not return to their original bright white color. I would never clean pads again, I would buy new ones from Canon.

just called a local canon authorized service center. $21 for the MP830 ink pads shipped, $100 if i bring it in and they replace the pads.

hmmmm........

i do have 2 spare refurb'd MP830's that i paid $89 for

any thoughts ??

Save yourself the money. Try cleaning the pads. I pulled mine out of a i9900, took them upstairs to a slop sink, ran hot water, let them soak, ran water over them and in about 15 mins, they were absolutely as white as new, put them in paper towels to remove the water and air dryed overnight. They came out thicker than they were with ink soaked in.
No rips, no tears. Easy as pie.

My first thought would be to locate a service manual for your printer so you know what you're letting yourself in for BEFORE you remove any parts.

If you went ahead I'd do it with someone hovering over you with a digital camera, taking before and after pictures of cables, helping tag parts, etc... so you know how to put it all back together again. If nothing else the pictures would make for a very useful guide for any other lunatics.. *ahem*.. I mean enthusiasts who want to do something similar...

Worth noting that the i9900 doesn't have a pigment ink cartridges so they would wash out while the MP830 has the PGI5BK which is pigment and won't wash out much...

You are absolutely right about the pigment ink compared to the dye base ink I was talking about in my i9900. None of my Canon printers use pigment ink. Another reason to try and stay in dye based ink printing, let alone the more pronounced and rich colors you get.
