From somewhere else, I noted the following:
ip5000 bk 320 c 256 m 256 y 128 b 128 -qy6-0057
ip4200 bk 320 c 256 m 256 y 128 b 128 -qy6-0059

Could this mean the ip4200 print head could be used in the ip5000? They are still pretty expensive, but much cheaper than the ip5000.

The two printers use a completely different print head and technology.

The iP5000 uses the BCI-6 cartridges which has no chip in them.
The iP4200 uses the chipped CLI-8 cartridge with a built in reader..:(

Sadly no.

They are different and cannot be interchanged, as The Hat wrote, even if they have the same number of nozzles. You will need the QY6-0057-000 print head. It is the same print head you specified, but this proper Canon part number may find more hits, when looking for best price.

Good luck in finding one at a reasonable price.

Peter.

The QY6-0057-000 is no longer available at any price. Last month I found one that they wanted over $250. More than the printer cost, although someone is selling new printers at $499.

Pooh! I love my ip5000 (working on my 4th one, 3 used), Photos as good as lab. Been refilling since new.

I've got a working iP5000 (and a non-working one) that I want to get rid of (along with a bunch of my other printers). I'll sell you the working printhead for $25 including postage. If you want the whole printer, you can have that for the same price if you pay for shipping.

I haven't received a PM. Please contact me via email.

This transaction is completed. I discovered that the printhead had one clogged nozzle so I sent the printer to Darth for just the cost of shipping. I also discovered that I already disposed of the non-working iP5000 so I no longer have any iP5000's to get rid of.
