Did you have to clean or replace the ink absorbers?
The ink absorber pads were cleaned twice in its life time, the printer spent most of its life with a CISS.. I’ve got no idea of the print head number, but I will find that out when I fully retire her.. The printer did test out print heads for different people that were having trouble..
P.S. I couldn’t get the top cover to fit properly after the second clean..

Once the head was lost there was no point in keeping her anymore, anyway she deserves her retirement, it’s was the original head that came with the printer and had a sheet count of over 54,000.

I’ve got an i9950 that will still do CD’s, and the same carts and ink will work in her..
54K pages must be close to a Guiness record for a Canon printhead.

In case your venerable i9950 bites the dust one of these days, you know that your Pro-10 can do CDs as well ..;)

I only noticed the i9950 could do Cd’s after I resurrected her from a deep sleep, (About 3 years) and yes I know the Pro 10 can do CD’s as could her predecessor the 9500, but the jury is out on the Pro 10, because I’m finding that she is not as user friendly as the older 9500 was.. @Artur5 please don’t have a heart attack..:hugs

hi hat and others,

long time. sorry to hear about your IP4500 woes. agreed the build quality of these older PGI5/CLI8 machines were legendary. for over 10 years i refilled a series of MP830s that are of a similar vintage.

i am now working through a number of 860/870s that i stockpiled 10 years ago when they were $69 each. not quite the build quality but are still refillable/reset-able using the PG220/CLI221s.

as most know the problem is that print heads wear out long before the printers do. canon does not make them anymore, so what to do.

my dilemma was i had 7 stored MX860/870s and was down to 2 print heads. i know it is against the advice here on the forum, but i decided to roll the dice with an US based ebay seller, initially ordered 1 at $28 to test out. the nozzle check came up fine. so i ordered 5 more($24 each). 3 tested out fine, 2 did not, so i got a refund for those 2. not sure how long they will last once put into use.

again this was from a US based ebay seller, items arrived in 4 days.

so might be worth a shot to try one out, if it does not work, ebay does a good job protecting its buyers so to get a refund

hate to see a good IP4500 go to waste, one of canon's best made printers

Hi @jimbo123, and thank for your condolences, I have decided to let her go because she’s earned her rest, and I don’t want to take a chance on any of these refurbished heads, I may get a good one but most they are all bad, but the anxiety is not good waiting..

Tip:- If your running your 860/870’s with CLl-221 carts, you can trim some pieces from the top cover of your printer and this allows you to accommodate the bigger CLl-8 carts in these printer, it just needs a chip swap to enable the bigger cart.

I had a iP4700 that I converted from CLl-521 carts to CLl-8’s and they worked no issues, it took two refills before the printer noticed it was using bigger carts but never complained once.. 5128_carts_red_led.jpg click to enlarge..

I am rather disappointed too you don't like the PRO-10.
IMO it does everything the same as the PRO-9500, only better.
I mean photo's of coarse.

Don't worry, for nearly one year I've been dealing with 3D printing and my heart has survived the compulsory stress and shocks fairly well.. :D

Yes that maybe so, but I don’t do many photos , plus I’m using 9500 inks not OEM and I am not judging the output quality..

I was doing some Avery labels the other day, and had a terrible time centring the image, the left side registering on the 9500 was far better than the one on the Pro 10, and the front paper tray was push button to open, no so on this new machine, plus the 9500 is faster..
P.S. I’m not sending the Feckin thing back..

At least try to find out how to change the battery, so the poor thing serves for something :D
