IP 4500 new print head has horizontal banding

I have my last print head purchase still in the unopened bag from CRC Tasktron and It has the blue print on the bag, but as far as I can recall when unpacking a new printer, the print head always came with black print on the bag ?

Thanks for the photo. It seems the blue printing is not a proof of refurbished print heads sold as new, but were there any bar codes on the plastic/aluminium bag? Has anybody seen bar codes on the print head bags from a known reliable supplier?

The last new printer I unpacked was a Pixma 3600, I am not sure but I think the print was black with no bar codes. I bought two of these printers a couple of years ago, for the print heads and OEM cartridges. The price was only half that of a set of OEM cartridges and adding the print head made this a real bargain as I needed the print head for an MP540.

just checked my inventory of spare printers / print heads for color printed on sealed canon print heads:

1 - IP4500 - BLUE
1 - MP830 - BLACK
2 - MX700 - ORANGE
4 - MP980 - GREEN
6 - MX870 - BLACK

the MX700's are the oldest, all-in-one w ADF, PG5/CLI8s, 4 ink carts, no CLI8-BK, ethernet, but no duplex.

given the quality of the new printers/ink carts maybe older is better.

what do you think, too many old spares ????

• Printers: Canon MP830, IP4500, MX700, MX860, MX870, MP980
• Method: German Durchstich Method
• Ink: Hobbicolors and OCP
• Misc: Squeeze bottles - so much easier than syringes

Thanks for the info. It seems the colour of the print on the storage bag tells nothing.

I don't know how many printers are too many, I'm looking for and collecting old Canon printers myself. I would keep the PGI-5/CLI-8 printers, as they don't make them like that any more.

I have gotten several new replacement print heads in the past twelve months and none of them had a barcode on the outside bag, I still have six old print head boxes on the shelf and only the replacement and not the new boxes have barcodes on them !

Thanks for info. My spare print head for the iP5200, QY6-0061 bought in November 2009, has a bar code on the lid of the cardboard box, but none on the bag. I might buy a new print head for an iP 5200R in the near future, if not a little fairy saves the old print head :), a bit expensive maybe, but you cannot buy a new Canon printer of this quality for the price of a print head.

the build quality on the IP4500 is legendary, especially compared to the newer models. IP4500 uses the PGI5 and 4 CLI8's ink carts, fully transparent and larger capacity compared the newer ink carts. easy to refill and reset.

new IP4500s on ebay go for $400+ http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Canon-P...47597789?pt=COMP_Printers&hash=item35c58caddd

i have a brand new IP4500, incl new print head, that i bought as a spare back in 03/2008, stored indoors w heat and AC. my printer is a MP830, now at 49,000 printed pages, same ink carts(PGI5/CLI8) as IP4500.

given the longevity of my MP830s not sure if i'll ever need my spare IP4500. if interested PM me an offer with or w/o the ink carts. need a good number in order to consider selling this new IP4500.
