Check out this article from the Sunday, Sept. 30, NY times Art and Leisure section. Long, but interesting. The printer he uses is certainly not your consumer desktop unit!

What the author doesn't realize is that those printouts are of a bad nozzle check and the poor guy is just trying to generate some money so he can buy a new print head.

Good question! I posted the link to this article just for interest sake and not to render a personal opinion of its artistic merit. The museums that show his work feel that it does have artistic merit. You might want to explain how Jackson Pollack thowing paint at a canvas or Mondrian painting colorful rectangles qualify as well. Many people questioned photography as an art form as compared to paintings, etchings, etc.
