Ink type for MP500 and MX870

Hi,

I have just bought a PIXMA MX 870 but I still own an old MP 500.

Since I have a good quantity of ink in stock for my MP 500 I was wondering if I can use it in the MX 870 or if they are incompatible??

It should be compatible, but the colours will be off, accept for black. I presume you are using refill ink. cartridges are unfortunately not exchangeable.

Yes, I use refill ink and thinking to go for the Durchstich method to refill them.

There will be some minor colour changes. It could be your photo prints will be more reddish or blueish (or whatever colour cast), so you will need to compensate this for by having custom printer profiles produced or adjusting the colour intensity of each individual colour channel using the sliders in your printer driver.

Ok I can live with that, basically I just want to use the ink of my MP500 until I finish it, then I will use the specific ink for the MX 870.

Also, I do not print photos with the MX 870, it is purely for work, not looking for particular performance on colors then.
