Three weeks it's taken me to unclog the print head in the i865 i was given, so now i need to buy some ink.
So question, is the I.S. photo ink dye based, and is it worth while buying it over their ordinary ink for photos.
Also it seems www.octoink.co.uk are running down their supplies of Bci-6 ink has anyone used Cli-8 ink in a Bci-6 printer, ?

Thanks
Mike

Actually yes: CLI-8 ink will yield even brighter and more vivid colours compared to BCI-6 compatible inks. Hobbicolors UW-8 for example, which is formulated for the CLI-8 cartridges, will give very good results in BCI-6 cartridges. I have used this ink in my previous Canon i9950 printer (8 colour BCI-6 system) and the results are much better compared to the original Canon BCI-6 inks.

Thanks for the reply i cant easily get Hobbicolors ink in the UK but i assume I.S. CLI-8 ink would be somewhat similar.
Now i have a choice dilemma !
is the general consensus that photo ink is defiantly the way to go for printing on photo paper.

1) No dilemma. Go with Octoink's Image Specialists ink or find something closer to home such as from tintenalarm.de.

2) It's not a consensus. It's accepted fact. Unless you are looking for unusual media, such as for printing on food or secret Interpol messages, pigment and/or dye based inks are the choice for photographic images on photo paper. Are you referring to something exotic?

I hope that bsanotrun isn't confusing the inks named "photo magenta" and "photo cyan", with inks that are used for printint photographs. Six and eight color canon printers use Magenta, Cyan, and a watered down version of each that are called photo magenta and photo cyan, in addition to the other color inks appropriate for each printer. All the dye-based inks in the Canon printers are designed to print photos and other color files.

I believe fotofreek is right. You do NOT want to use photo inks in your printer.

For a discussion about using the same inks for BCI and CLI cartridges, see this link.

Ahh. I think fotofreek may have something here. Definately do not want to confuse those two "Photo-" cartridges with the traditional Magenta and Cyan dye-based cartridges.

Always match up cartridge model and color alphanumerics and be as precise as possible when asking questions on the forum.

I use the CLI-8 inks in my i865 all the time along with KMP pigment black.
There never have being any problems with mine, simply because I consider IS inks to be very good.
BCI-6 inks are probably not selling anymore due to the popularity of the CLI-8s and not because of any quality issues..

Doesn't anyone label anything properly any more? I think they mean "light cyan", not "photo cyan".
