I just realized that Image Specialists provides for Canon printers with CLI-221 series ink cartridges with an ink that was formulated 10 years ago. IS part number WJ797 yellow ink is designated for BCI-3eY for printers such as S520 that was released in or before 2002. It is the same ink designated for MG and MX series printers with CLI-221Y. It is also the same ink for CLI-8Y for Pro9000 MKII. IS catalog also shows that it is for BCI-6 cartridges too. If Image Specialists did not reformulate the ink the WJ797 is at least a 10 year old ink formulation. If the ink has been reformulated over the years it seems it should have gotten new part numbers. WJ2032 is the part number of Image Specialists magenta ink. It is also designated for printers across several generations from BCI-3, BCI-6, CLI-8 and CLI-41. This ink is also about 10 years old.

10 years is a long time. There must have been a lot of new development of color dyes that are more fade resistant or whatever in 10 years. There have have been talks of nano technology development in color dyes and pigments in recent years. It seems Image Specialists is selling 10 year old technology for our latest Canon printers.

What exactly is your problem with I.S. inks is it because they are so successful at what they do
or because their one of the best 3rd party inks on the market today.

You obviously have some sort of gripe with I.S. inks but would rather not say
why not it would be very interesting for us to hear were all adults we can take.

Your knowledge of just how inks are manufactured is extremely limited to say the least.
But you insist on making wild suggestions that I.S. inks are old and therefore poorly made
and maintained and sell out of date inks to unsuspected buyers.

Now just say for one tiny moment that you might be right, where is your proof in all of this
sure you dont even use their inks in the first place.

Many guys buy I.S. inks and continue to do so because as you say their being ripped off,
no no no it because it is very good quality ink not that you would have noticed.

So Happy Printing to you and may clogs not bother you. :fl

who says that they haven't adjusted the formula over time to make it up to a quality of today ink with todays technology put into it so it works with the new carts.

maybe they changed the formula to work with a 521/526 or 221/226. then found the new formula works well in the old 3/6/8 cartridges so instead of the costs of stocking 2 lots of each colour etc, they just stock a 'one size fits all' ink

You guys can verify what I found (yesterday) on Image Specialists web site in their catalog. Their WJ797 (yellow) and WJ2032 (magenta) are designated for latest Canon BCI-3y, BCI-6, CLI-8, CLI-31, CLI-41 and CLI-8. This covers almost the oldest Canon printer to the latest.

This can be explained. These two inks have been revised year after year. It works for the latest models and works for the oldest too. But it is weired that they keep the part number unchanged. If this is the case it says Image Specialists has reformulated their inks and probably did that from time to time. The problem is why they kept the same part number? This would not be a good practice. Being the top compatible ink manufacturer in the world they should at least add revision numbers to the part numbers.

Another explanation may be the two inks are simply old inks formulated 10 years ago. If this is the case we are paying the highest premium for 10 year old technology.

I would like to have an answer. Mr. Hat, excuse me for my poor knowledge of inkjet ink. If you are in a position to represent Image Specialists please give the answer. I'll appreciate it and I believe the whole community of IS customers will appreciate it too.

(O The user name is The Hat and not Mr. Hat )

I do not speak for anybody but myself and therefore Im not qualified to answer or comment on what exactly I.S.
does with their inks one way or the other.

Again you dont use their inks so why persist with the ridiculous notion that there are 10 years old.
You have shown from your previous post that you will not listen or learn from anybody but yourself
so there is no point in continuing with this thread it will solve nothing.

Now if you want the real answers to your questions then why dont you contact I.S direct yourself at
sales@image-specialists.com or even Call them in New York on 631 475 9600

When you get all of the correct and relevant answers then you can speak honestly and openly on this subject
and everyone will listen to you, I will welcome them too.. :celebrate

Sorry, never thought you would mind to be called that way.

But you said my knowledge is limited so I thought you are an expert. The way you stand by Image Specialists makes me think you may be representing Image Specialists. My hat off if you are or you are not. I am just curious. I am an American. I would criticize every American brand name if I see it necessary. You are more American than I am.

You are wrong, sir. I used IS inks and used it since early 2000. It's true that I don't use it now. It is my back up brand name only now. If you read my post again you can see I am not accusing anything of Image Specialists yet. I am only asking a question. Obviously you loved the brand name so much that you dislike the question I asked. I have only posted a few times so far and you already judged that I don't listen. Wanna hear what my judgement about you?. Never mind, I respect that any comments on individuals do not belong here. This is what makes a forum good.

You seem very protective of Image Specialists. Why? Are you afraid that secrets of Image Specialists be disclosed to the public? Why?

I am surprised and disappointed that you do not act proactively trying to answer or help finding an answer yourself. You hug this forum almost every hour or even every minute every day. You know the answer to every question people asked. Good for you and for everyone.

I called Image Specialists. Couldn't be easier with your supplied telephone number and the people I spoke with were most pleasant. Image Specialists has not reformulated their CLI-8 inkset. Their goal is to make an inkset that matches OEM so the customer may continue printing using Canon's printer profiles. Additionally, each unique cartridge model inkset (CLI-8/221/225) will have a different formulation because the printer technology has changed requiring a new formulation for that model.

Startman: I just called that number too. Unfortunately I was just a minute late. I could hear only a recording saying their operating hours are from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. I will try to call again tomorrow. I will get a clear answer I hope.

Stratman, your post is confusing. There are two conflicting statements. Can you be more clearer?

1. Image Specialists has not reformulated their CLI-8 inkset.
2. each unique cartridge model inkset (CLI-8/221/225) will have a different formulation because the printer technology has changed requiring a new formulation for that model.

The first says no re-formulation. The 2nd says it requires a new formulation. Can you clarify please? Thanks.
