I CAN have nice things, right?!?! Pulling the trigger on a Bambu Lab H2S

Ok friends,I've been around and around and around about this forever!

I'm usually (at a fault) frugal <cheap> and have a hard time buying the "nice" things. I almost always go for the thing that provides 80% of the value at 50% of the price.

For example, I spend a TON of time looking at the ELEGOO Centauri Carbon because it seemed to be 80% of the P1S (and some ways better), at like 50% of the cost.

I even had one in my shopping cart, ordered, and then I quickly cancelled it because I talked myself into "Your Creality Ender 3 V3 SE is good enough!" :(

... then the Bambu Labs Black Friday sale started this last week and I almost pulled the trigger on the P1s Combo... which is a GREAT deal for a printer that a lot of people have put thousands of hours through without issue.

Well, it was my girlfriend that convinced me that:
  1. 3D printing has been one of my most favorite hobbies since 2017, and
  2. I saved enough pennies that I can afford something nice for myself.
Seems like everyone has Bambu Lab printers, and while I don't love that they aren't fully-open, they tend to have the best devices,

So, I decided to push myself to get the "best" one they have. I really don't see needing dual-nozzle (and extra complexity) of the H2D, and while the new P2S looks fantastic, I love the idea of a larger print-bed.

(... and I feel like I've been saying that I'd buy a Bumbu Lab printer once the print-bed got bigger than mid-size)

That all being the case, I'm about to pull the trigger on the H2S combo with AMS 2 Pro, and a few extra hot-ends (definitely a .6 nozzle and maybe a .8... not sure about the High Flow or not?), filament spools, etc. that are on sale.

Main Reasons For My Choice:
  • Bambu Labs makes GREAT printers.
  • Enclosed printers will let me test out ABS, etc. that I haven't been able to in the past.
  • H2S has a huge print-bed.
  • I'm not sure I'll use the AMS a lot, but I like to have the option.
I don't love that TPU is a bit of a PITA with these printers, but I think that's the nature of the beast with most enclosed printers these days.

I go back-and-forth about getting the 10W laser version. I don't think I'd use it much, and if I do want a laser, maybe I get a stronger one on a dedicated machine for it?

Also debating the Bambu Lab AMS HT - AMS (the smaller one that heats more)... but for the $$ I think I should go for better drier options that don't need to be connected to the printer?

What do you think? Any last words before I click: "PURCHASE"???

A few videos about it:

I'm looking at a multi setup too. I was actually ready to pull the trigger on Flashforge's AD5X, (and the wifey is on board).

BUT.

I'm going to hold off just a bit and see how this looks when it releases

https://www.snapmaker.com/en-US/snapmaker-u1

It's more than double the cost of the AD5X (about 900 USD) and it will take me a long time at my current print volume to offset that cost in filament loss from the color change poop. However, I really like the idea of hotswap tool-heads. I also like being able to quickly bounce between different types of filament in the same print, which you can't do with a multifeed single head.

Anyway, based on what you're saying, The H2s sounds like a great fit, and aside from the 3rd party lockout nonsense, the printers are awesome up and down the line.

Just remember that you still need good ventilation with ABS, even in an enclosed printer.

Buy it!

Not bad. Ironically I just watched this great review of it earlier today:

Ya, I've wondered about that with the H2D to mix very different types of filaments.

Yup, frustrating. I do wish I could easily use Orca Slicer from my PC, etc.

Hmm... even with the advanced carbon filters, etc? :(

Thanks! I need all the encouragement I can get ;)

You can still do that, you're just going to have little offsets in heat/purge times going between, say, PLA and PTEG (220c and 240c nozzle temps for example). That's more or less how they all work to some extent with a single head.

It's one of the main reasons I have shied away from Bambu. I have ethical objections to DRM in general, and when they also mean I can't use or modify tools to suit my workflow, it's a big red flag. If you can live in their ecosystem, no problem (and most hobbyists can). This is more a philosophy thing for me than a dislike of the hardware. It's that altruistic white-hat linux kid peeking out through the cracked and tarnished armor of a career systems engineer :)

Yeah. they help, but for safety you should still run a fume hood for ABS or run it in a well-ventilated area. Even sealed enclosures aren't really sealed.
